Heavy spring on new Dragonfly....
Re: Heavy spring on new Dragonfly....
This threat turned out very informative. Learned alot
Re: Heavy spring on new Dragonfly....
I'm wondering about the spring, is it just a straight bit of steel..... or does it have a bend in it? Just wondering if it might have been fitted the wrong way around or something. I know that if I take the knife apart I void the warranty but if I can fix it without paying $40+ and waiting who knows how many weeks it might be worth it.

Re: Heavy spring on new Dragonfly....
It should be bent. Here is a picture I found on google.
I would consider this a somewhat difficult model to disassemble/assemble if you aren't familiar with disassembling back locks.

It looks ok, I'm an instrument tech and have spent 40 years servicing all sorts of things from cameras to anaesthetic machines, something with 20 parts isn't so scary (I have also watched a couple of videos)...... I'm thinking that I will not send it back (but I will at least wait for a reply from the seller).
So to lighten the tension I guess (looking at the photo), just bend the spring up slightly where it kinks?
cheers, John

With that sort of confidence, I am surprised you didn't just unscrew it and analyze it to begin with.
I haven't ever felt the need to bend one of my lockbar springs to relieve tension, but I'd imagine just a small amount less angle at the kink will make all the difference you need.
You will bend the tip downward at the kink (more towards being flat). Might look upside down in that photo.
Just be careful when putting it back in, it likes to slip out of the backspacer. But, your G10 version is slightly easier to reassemble than the FRN with the nubs on the sides.
...and take care with the blade, and tape off the edge.
Going back to Caly.

Well, I was thinking about the warranty, but that's no big deal to me now so tomorrow I'll open it up and take a look.SpeedHoles wrote: With that sort of confidence, I am surprised you didn't just unscrew it and analyze it to begin with.

Hi,
I need to buy a decent set of small Torx bits for my Spydercos so what sizes should I buy? (I used a crappy little one that came with a new cell phone screen to check the Dragonfly)........
I'm thinking of buying this.... does this set cover the sizes used with Spyderco knives?
Husky Model # 70381H
Screwdriver, spinning removable cap and 4 double-sided bits with T4, T5, T6, T7, T8, T9, T10 and T15 Torx Hex tip sizes.
cheers, John

Re: Heavy spring on new Dragonfly....
came here to say the same thing. My stainless cant be flicked open like my frn. I can one-hand open but its definitely more difficultJazz wrote:Only on my stainless one. That and the different clip placement than the FRN ones makes it hard to one hand open.

Glad to hear you got it working well!

That's a nice pic too.
Re: Heavy spring on new Dragonfly....
Thanks guys...... it was starting to drive me nuts...... now it's a pleasure to use and play with (sorry, I meant handle) :D .
Spyderco customer service emailed me and said to return it and said the turnaround time was 3 weeks....... it takes around 1-1/2 weeks each way in the post so it would have been around 6 weeks to have it fixed and returned.

Nice photo! I like that knife....
Re: Heavy spring on new Dragonfly....
Didn't realise the G10 Dragonfly had liners, or am I misunderstanding the picture?

Yes it has liners as shown. The FRN Dragonfly does not.aesmith wrote:Didn't realise the G10 Dragonfly had liners, or am I misunderstanding the picture?

Hi,
I'm very happy with the Dragonfly now but my family are getting a little sick of me playing with it and saying "look at this little beauty", it comes in handy every day........ the poor little Ladybug is back in it's box, maybe a gift for someone one day.
cheers, John
