I've been a SUREFIRE man for some time now in the flashlight sector and I usually carry one of my trusty Surefire E2D Defender models that I dearly adore. Currently my main EDC flashlight has mostly been my LED Surefire E2D Defender and I have a really nice set of rechargeable 123A batteries and charger which really comes in handy. OH I know that there are several really good new flashlight companies out there seriously competing with Surefire but they are a USA made company which I really like.

Now in the past two months I've kind of gone in another direction. I got one of Maglite's LED units>> the "XL50" model to be exact>> I got it used at an estate sale for $4  >> I was suspicious at how cheap it was but much to my pleasant surprise I've been really pleased with it. I do carry it more so I don't risk losing another one of my Surefire gems. It's not nearly the quality unit that the Surefire E2D Defender is but it's really not a bad unit either. I've never up till now ever been a fan of Maglite products but this LED unit of theirs is really nice for the price.

So here in the past two months it's been my M390 Military, my stainless handled RESCUE model SE with ATS-55 blade steel and the Maglite XL50. But when I'm out doing serious business I always have my Surefire E2D Defender>> which is just one great flashlight.

Either the Manix 2 G10 or the Native 5 G10 coupled with either the Lumintop Tool Titanium (AAA) or a hybrid/combo AAA light which is the Maratac AAA Rev 3 aluminum body wih the Lumintop Worm Stainless Steel head.... Both of the AAA lights use the Nichia 219B LED with the high color rendering index (love that)....

Surefire makes a good light. The "classics" as you have are constantly being tweaked by the aftermarket; Gene Malkoff being probably the most famous.

https://malkoff-devices.myshopify.com/c ... cr123-head

Personally the modular approach is what keeps me going back to what Surefire started. My P60 host can't compete with the higher end lights these days. The driver and reflector are very crude and the 1400'ish lumens and 30k'ish LUX is more a testiment to battery abuse and dedoming than engineering. Still, being able to "swap engines" in 20 seconds is a real joy. Better LED's, different tint preference, different mode settings, or even internal failure means you just throw away a $20-60 part. Dealing with W&R isn't necessary :D.

I was a diehard Surefire fan. Until I dropped my P2X Fury from hip height and chipped the lens. Come on.

Sent it Surefire USA, 6 month turnaround time. Got it back full of dried sealant, with the technician's fingerprints dried nicely into it.

Sold it very quickly after. Realised people were correct when they said Surefire is going backwards.

Elzetta is the new "Surefire". Potted electronics, nearly unbreakable lenses.

Anyway I've moved on to the Chinese lights for everyday use now. They suit my needs better.

My bedside light for when things go bump in the night is still my 6P Defender with M61 dropin. Trust that thing to bits.

Such an awesome thread! I carry a Surefire "E2D" (500 lumen model) along w/ my newly acquired Civilian. Also, I think Surefire's "Titan Plus" in the nickel finish looks great with almost any Spydie.
