Compare S30V to S35VN
Re: Compare S30V to S35VN
Thanks folks for all the information. The Native 5 is on the way with S35VN. I really like this model so I can live with S35VN. It seems pretty popular with other brand knives as well.
Re: Compare S30V to S35VN
Most people consider them to be similar except S35VN finishes better as mentioned. They're popular because they're a decent all-around steel that isn't overly expensive and is very corrosion resistant. I find each to be my lesser preferred steels because I think their edge holding to sharpenability ratio is not superb and I'm not a huge fan of the edge the steels take. But there are major trade offs with most steels and with these they're good but not great at most things. Decent toughness, edge holding, corrosion resistance, and cost.
S35VN was designed with assistance from Chris Reeve but the primary focus seemed to be on making the steel easier to work with. In the end, the only other possibly noticeable difference would be a slight increase in toughness.

As the number goes up, so does the perceived exclusivity of the steel.
S35Vn MUST be better than S30V!
