Anyone game for a Compression Lock Military?
Anyone game for a Compression Lock Military?
Just curious about the communities thoughts on a Military with a Compression Lock. So what do you think? Would a compression lock be an improvement? Is there anyone who would prefer a Liner Lock?

Re: Anyone game for a Compression Lock Military?
That's a tough question for me. The compression lock is one of my favorite lock designs, but I don't think it's quite as easy to use with gloves on, at least not as easy as the Military's liner lock. The one major drawback I can think of for the compression lock is that it can create a hot spot on the palm of your hand if you're really bearing down on something making a cut. You don't get that with the liner lock or CBBL. The liner lock has also never pinched my hand when opening it. I think overall as much as I love the compression lock I have to say I prefer the Military the way it is. I would also definitely consider it if they made one though.

I would prefer a larger para 2 to a millie with a compression lock. I prefer the four way clip and choil design of the former.

Paramilitary XL?
Leave the Military as its own thing.

Re: Anyone game for a Compression Lock Military?
I'd prefer a compression lock over a liner lock, but the Military I used to have was great also.
Re: Anyone game for a Compression Lock Military?
I'd buy one
Re: Anyone game for a Compression Lock Military?
I'm going to say no.
I wouldn't mind if the Military had a compression lock, or if the PM2 had a liner lock. I don't mind the compression lock, I like it just fine, but I'm also fine with the Military as it is. I don't see a reason to make a smaller version of the Military just like I don't see a reason to make a larger PM2 or a smaller PM2. Spyderco makes plenty of knives in each size range, maybe even too many in some cases. Rather than developing a lot of new models I would just as soon see them making more of some of the current models, or making other improvements to current models.

If there's anything the entire knife community has in common it's pickiness :)
Re: Anyone game for a Compression Lock Military?
This is also a tough one for me as well>> because I'm a big fan of the "Compression Lock" and "Ball Bearing" lock both and love the models I have with those types of locking systems>> for that reason I've always loved the GUNTING model and Dodo model both. But with the C-36 Military being one of my favorite "hard use" folders I'm going to take the position of just leaving it the way it is for right now. Because I'm a firm believer that if it's not broke then let's don't try to fix it.
And I know a lot of people have negative opinions of liner locks and it is certainly not in my top 3 of favorite locking systems. Albeit of all the Spyders I own now and have owned over the years with liner locks and lockback systems I've never to this day ever had any kind of a failure with either one of those locking systems. I like the C-36 Military model just the way it is>> now don't get me wrong because I really love the fact that they use the C-36 Military to introduce new blade steels and I believe it's about the best folder they can use for that purpose IMO.
Other than maybe to test out a new type of handle/scale material or newer super blade steel I say that we leave the C-36 Military model just the way it is  There's a big reason it's been on the main line up for almost 20 years so please let's not tamper with success.

Not a tough decision for me, I'd prefer a compression lock anything, military, Manix, Manix XL, Tuff, Southard, ZT 0452, AFCK, TSEK

Since we're gettin' crazy here, I'd like a mid back lock Milli.

Isn't the elusive Military 2 with the Stop Lock supposed to operate similar to a back lock?Jazz wrote:... and necessities, I might add.Evil D wrote:Uh, that's refined preferences thank you very muchzhyla wrote:If there's anything the entire knife community has in common it's pickiness :)

I'm really excited for the upcoming Stop Lock. That being said, the newest Militarys with the CQI changes are about perfect for me.
Re: Anyone game for a Compression Lock Military?
Id love to try out a compression lock Military. However, I do generally find the larger lock access of the Liner Lock easier to operate with gloves. I also wouldn't want I to to come at the expense of the Liner Lock version.

Re: Anyone game for a Compression Lock Military?
I've got no complaints with the current Military... quite phenomenal as is...
But all said and done, I'd probably buy a Sharpmaker with a Compression lock! Put it on anything and I'd probably enjoy it, lol.
(Not so much the integrated Compression lock though)

I am going to be the heretic, here. I would love to see the Military with a Triad Lock. I think I would sell off all my other knives for that one.

I like the liner lock on the Military, no need to change it IMO.

Also more interested in a Millie 2 with the Stop Lock, but that's got more to do with being a lefty and wanting to get in on all the Millie sprints than anything else.
