It has been our experience that serrated or semi-serrated fixed blades are a very small market. I think plain edge would be best.

Sal, thank you. Here is a question, your opinion on this: If you all made (hypothetical here) a Byrd version of the original Caspian Salt, in both pointed and blunt tip, but using Byrd style materials and workmanship, do you think that would be a good idea like the original Caspian Salt? That knife is one of the best every made by human beings, thank you :)

A 4" bladed full tanged Temperance lookalike with frn scales in 8cr13mov with a comet shaped hole with an injection molded sheath. No muss no fuss nothing fancy just a nice working fixed blade in the 30-40.00 range would be perfect.

I could be wrong but I doubt you would see $30-40 street price. Wasn't the mov13 mule $40 plus shipping?

Sal, would an 8Cr Mule with FRN scales and a basic sheath be an option? I feel like that could reduce the costs of making the blade since you're already setup for the mule series.

Either way I think an under 50$ fixed blade is a good idea.

Welcome to our forum. As you suggest, $30-40 street price would be difficult with any degree of quality.

I think, at this time, I wold prefer to keep the Mule Team pattern as Mules. A fixed blade could be made, but the Fixed blade market is challenging. We're still trying to break into it with Spyderco models, but it's proving to be challenging with a quality fixed blades. We have a few fixed blade designs in-the-works, but as Chinese makers get better, it might be more effective to make them as Spyderco's. "'Tis a puzzlement".

Sal, what would a Byrd fishing fixed blade knife be like? Something with a four inch blade of very rust-resistant stainless steel, FRN handle, and polymer sheath, similar to a "Byrd Caspian Salt"?

Interesting topic. I don't know how much more challenging is to make a fixed than a folder (I would think otherwise, but I'm not in the business of knife making). I know a lot of people who have and love their Spyderco folders, but I don't know a person who has a Spyderco fixed blade. I'm one of the first persons on the Portuguese Bushcraft Forum and as I can recall I've never seen a picture of a Spyderco fixed blade... and you can imagine the "knife porn" that has accumulated over the years LOL
I think the main cause is the price, all Spyderco knives are on the "very expensive" category, at least on European shops.
