Hallo and thank you
Hallo and thank you
Hi All,
I'm new to the forum although I've been reading a fair amount, not new to knives as such but new to better quality knives. I picked up a Persistence a couple of months ago and was just blown away by the ergonomics and built quality in comparison to other knives I have owned. I live in Cape Town South Africa so over here it is not exactly what would be considered a "budget folder".
Well after reading more and really looking into Spyderco and reading some more, watching just about every video I could find I am hooked. So I decided to bite the bullet and order a Manix 2 in CPM S110V. Given the exchange rate and transport costs I think its fair to say my friends think I am crazy (and they might have a point there...) So given the decision, I decided the only possible route for me (being new and all) was to buy direct from the factory outlet to ensure I didn't get a fake.
Man was I impressed by the most friendly lady helping me! So much of friendliness and helpfulness and just so nice and professional! I can not really express my gratitude towards this super friendly lady properly and I don't know if she would want her name mentioned so I'll just leave it there but she definitely played a part in converting me to a life long customer big time.
My knife arrived in around 4,5 days from placing the order (and after a lot of struggle with UPS on my side, USA side was smooth as butter) and it is everything I could have dreamed of. The built quality and smoothness of the action is just perfect. It is my EDC knife and I don't set foot out of the house without it.
I realised what everyone was writing about when I had to sharpen it... So got the triangle sharp maker as well haha. Now its shaving sharp again and as impressed with the sharp maker as the knifes...
So thank you to all you good people sharing knowledge so freely on this forum, making it so much easier for someone like me to do a bit of reading and learning what to look for. Really appreciate all the knowledge and while my budget is now well and truly blown for a while, I have become a fan for life!
Cheers,
Cor

Welcome!
For the next one, and I'm sure there will be, I'd check out BladeHQ, GPKnives, Knifeworks, and Knifecenter. They're all definitely reputable dealers (at least three of them have had or currently have Spyderco knives exclusive to their site, if that tells you something), and I would think at least one of them would ship to SA.
Anybody else have any good dealers to suggest?

Welcome Cor,
I think you'll like it here!
The lights were on so I dropped in to say hello! That was a few months ago and now they can't get rid of me! If you like Spyderco knives and friendly, knoweledgable people, happy and willing to help, look no further!

Welcome Cor, good to have you on board...always hurts a little to hear the overseas woes of some of the spyder nuts, but at the same time its uplifting to hear how undeterred you all are by the prices and customs hassles, and you still feel you got your money's worth...you guys are hardcore.

Welcome to the forum. I feel your pain when it comes to prices of Spydercos overseas from the maker.
Now, you need to save up for a Delica, a Military, and a ParaMilitary. Just trying to enable another addiction. :D

Hi All,
Thanks for the warm welcome, makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside! haha. Thanks you for the tips on where to buy the next one and some good options to select the next one! I tend to look for the lock and blade steel first then on to design (including ergonomics and aesthetics etc) when selecting a knife.
I doubt I would be able to add much knowledge, so I will post some photo's of Cape Town life living with Spyderco's!
Take care everyone!
Cor

Hi Cor. Welcome to the forum!
The story you shared about the friendly lady at Spyderco is consistent with every interaction I've ever had with Spyderco. They're great people!
Even if your friends are right about the crazy thing :p ... :spyder: spyder-crazy :spyder: is a common and somewhat harmless disorder. They better watch out though..it is highly contagious :D .
I look forward to seeing some pics of your new Manix 2.
Best Regards,
Chad

Cor,
Welcome to the Forum. Enjoy your stay.
Keep in the mind, there are a bunch of Spyderco authorized dealers, who will ship overseas. They priced Spyderco 40% off.
Good luck. M2 LW is a very good knife, but I love Native5 much more. :)

Hi Cor,
Welcome to our forum. Glad that you are pleased with our products and our company.
We do have reliable and honest distributor in Joburg that can make sure you don't get counterfeits. Ramrod is the company and Marc Ager is an owner. I have spent some time in SA wit the Agers. Very nice people. Beautiful country.

Welcome to the forum, Cor. Very amazing and very super customer service.
That Persistence is a great folder. Check out the Spyderco Resilience. This is the "extra large one" with an over 4 inch long blade and same great quality:

Thank you very much for the response and information. I will be sure and contact them when I am looking for the next Spyderco.
Yes the addiction is real... haha But what I really appreciate in all the spyderco products I have come across is your commitment to design. There are surely easier ways to go about things but you guys really push design (from my view at least). Which leads to very interesting and creative problem solving. I really appreciate and respect this approach and will continue to support you guys..
All the best,
Cor
