Why not make a 3.5" blade? Maximize the blade you get out of the handle, right? The balance of the knife would be improved and the blade to handle ratio would be optimized.
>> Manix 3

There could be a Manix 3S which would share the same grip of the Manix 3 but the blade is diagonally cut down to a length of 3.00'' which is great for those who likes the handle of the Manix 3 but their knife laws outlaws knives above 3.00".

Am I doing this right?

I prefer the Manix as is also and one handed operation using only the cbbl is easy with practice and more controlled in my opinion.

What could make the manix cooler to me would be a ceramic ball and or a titanium cage. Would look cool and remove concerns people have with the plastic cage. I have never had an issue.

I would just like to see more designs with the cbbl lock.

It ain't broke. Nothing to fix.
More CBBL please!

Would this qualify it to be called the Manix 3?
There are Manix-like knives from China with the Axis type lock, rather than Spyderco's BB lock, so it's already done, albeit by counterfeiter scumbags...

Personally I'll stick with my Manix 2 as is, If I need a bigger one I'll get an XL, that's way more than 2mm longer.

If you want to make the Manix2 better then remove all of the superfluous jimping. Other than that it is fine.
With gloves on, or sweaty hands, the jimping is a very worthwhile feature IMO, though I agree that in many situations it just makes the handle a bit less comfortable.

go on- I'll bite.

In what way is the axis lock better than the existing Manix lock?
With the axis lock you can put your thumb and index finger on the buttons of the axis lock and flick the knife open using your wrist much faster than you can open it with the spyderhole and the same thing goes for closing the knife.
The CBBL is less prone to break which is the main weakness with the axis lock. It is basically an improved axis lock.

The axis lock may be more fun to play with, but it isn't a superior locking mechanism.

Nothing wrong to fix with the Manix 2. The cbbl lock is awesome and blade length is no problem. Although, it is my winter knife, I find it more comfortable to handle with gloves on, the jimping is a little excessive but I'm not going to condemn a bad *** knife!

I'm hesitant to post in one of these threads but I have to ask. OP do you even own a Manix 2?

Very funny and well played jabba359,, and I'll just leave it at that to avoid any backlash like I experienced in another, eerily similar thread

Also, I have a Manix 2 LW in S110V and wouldn't change a thing. By far my favorite summertime carry.

do you make "improvement" suggestions everywhere or just for spyderco? Have you ever contacted ikea and told them their poang chair should be 2.3mm wider? Or told H&M they should use design elements taken from banana republic?

I like the manix how it is. I like the lock, blade size is good and ergos are great. If was going to improve anything about it I suppose a bit of jimping along the heel of the spine might help some people with the lock but like I said, I like the knife.

Dear BMW: your 3 series car would be better if you fitted the Honda V-Tec system and increasing the wheelbase by 2mm. ;)
Warhammer 40000 is- basically- Lord Of The Rings on a cocktail of every drug known to man and genuine lunar dust, stuck in a blender with Alien, Mechwarrior, Dune, Starship Troopers, Fahrenheit 451 and Star Wars, bathed in blood, turned up to eleventy billion, set on fire, and catapulted off into space screaming "WAAAGH!" and waving a chainsaw sword- without the happy ending.

I can't see how any of those "improvements" would amount to anything. You can already buy a XL If you need a longer blade?
The only improvement that can be made would to be to change out the plastic ball cage for aluminum or something. It's a great knife as it is, but that would be icing on the cake for me.
