I'm sorry to say that I don't have an interesting job. I just take care of production. Not much thrills here, right?

You gents sure have had some interesting adventures. I do several things to bring in the money so I can buy more knives. You can relate? By day I work for a large company as a Corporate Security Specialist. Then, several nights a week, I teach martial arts and combatives. I moved to Omaha years ago to study with famed martial artist, Robert Bussey. Through that contact I've had the fortune to meet and train with some truly exceptional people. This week marks my 21st year training in the arts. I now run a private school and have had the privilege to work with and train civilians, LEO's and individual members of the military. Most recently I've started to work with a company in Lincoln, NE as an independent contractor doing executive protection on a limited basis. I envy those of you that have had the opportunity to travel the globe though. That had to be incredible.

Thanks Samosaurus and Jurphaas. BTW to actually answer the question: yeah I have a pretty interesting job, lots of interaction with different people and I every now and again I get to go present myself to the front desk of our nation's ministry buildings ;-).

The coolest part is being a freelancer, absolute freedom to do things my way! Maaaaan what I wouldn't give to be a succesfull martial arts/combatives trainer. That must be so cool.

Well Samo, as a fellow journalist I envy you for your colourful assignments on board of aircraft carriers etc.

The closest time my job as a political correspondent took me towards knives was when I repeatedly tried (but of course, failed) to convince our honourable members of the legislature to relax our draconian knife laws in Hong Kong, where basically the cops have the sole power to decide what would be considered offensive weapons and theyby arresting the carrier of such items.

Have fun!

Another Ex-Military here... I was a Navy Heuy Polar Crewchief for four years. Had three tours to Antarctica, based out of McMurdo Station at the foot of Mount Erebus (14K crest).
Trained in Air Crew school - Pensacola, Florida after Aviation Electronics Technician training.
Got to fly out to the Dry Valleys and outlying areas of the Ross Shelf in support of scientific missions ranging from core sampling to seabed studies. Had an extended stay on top of Beardmore Glacier for a month (slept in a tent rather than stay in the huts). Was part of a mission that found 4 million-year-old reptile fossils in one of the mountain outcroppings. Being in a helicopter allowed me to set foot where no other human has. Often traveled to the ice edge to observe killer whales, penguins and Weddel seals in their natural habitat. I was able to get some stick time and fly the helo from the co-pilot’s seat on several occasions. I’ve been to the top of Mount Erebus on a walk -around O2 bottle, and hovered at 15,000 feet unpressurized (!) for air sampling. Got to catch a C-130 to South Pole station twice. There really is a candy cane colored pole marking true South.

We were flown to Christchurch, New Zealand as a base for our departure to the ice and for the return. I’ve spent many nights in that interesting little country.

After the military tour, I went on to become the Chief Biomedical Hemodialysis Technician at a private center for ten years.

I now work as a Navy contractor configuring and testing remotely piloted drone aircraft. Many of those were used as radar decoys in the start of the war with Iraq.

The Navy really was an adventure !

Awesome Zeus!!!!

Great stuff to be a part of. The Antarctic might be a little cold for my taste but I hear the diving is excellent. The military certainly opens up a lot of interesting travel destinations and opportunities. You're not tied in with a company like Tracor on the QF-4 FSAT program by any chance are you?

Diving? Yes, I did some swimming at Lake Vanda in one of the Dry Valleys. The first time the Kiwis (New Zealanders) blew a hole in the ice over the lake and you had to jump in naked! I went in since we had a female with us and she also jumped in. You then become a member of the Vanda Swim Club, sign the log book at the New Zealand station, receive a patch and get your photo taken (especially if you have a female in the party).

The next trip I waited until the ice melted back from the shore ( mid January, the warmest month) and dove in.

The QF-4 drones are in the same hangar as our BQM and AQM aircraft, right next door. Nothing like the smell of JP-8 in the morning!

hey ~ Much obliged Jur! Man, you've been going places too! The airforce is way too cool!

I remember back then in those critical days after dropping out of high school -- didn't have a clue on what to do till I actually started working as a bus-boy in a restaurant.. Gradually, I made it to the kitchen and the dining hall.. Well, I kinda tried other jobs, but nothing did prepare me for a stint in the journalism fraternity..

4th year apprentice machinist. Not too exciting but I can pretty much make anything out of steel I work in a hydraulic cylinder shop and mostly make parts for them. I also have a Tool and Die diploma but have not pursued that aspect of my carrer yet. Take Care and very interesting post

Well, my sorta "fantasy" job assignment would be covering a feature story on the ABS school in Texarcana! And revisit Spyderland of Course! Well, the perks in my job is rather interesting. Each year, journalism foundations from the US and UK will hand out fellowship programmes for writers where they are required to spend about a year to six months on attachment with a newspaper.. A friend of mine did his at the New York Times.. While some other folks managed to carve a stint at the Financial Times of London.. I wish I could be an intern for "Blade Magazine" or "Knives Illustrated"..

Hey Jur ~ This thread really sank in the hook eh? Thanks for sharing the highlights of your career man! Its really interesting to have a job that pays for yer travel and adventure!
