Maybe....eventually....Blue weave Domino first, and only considering because it's orange and it's exclusive, would never carry, already have the CF version, plus same price for G10 as CF ....so maybe not, we'll see.

I've been on the fence ever since the positron was released. Unfortunately, this sprint isn't enough of an upgrade to push me over.

At first glance, the positron seemed like the perfect knife for my needs, the one knife to end my addiction, but there seems to be so many small issues with the design that I could never quite justify the purchase. The flush liner lock is my biggest concern, haven't bought any such knife since the khukuri many years ago... I really hope they do some CQI on this one!

A better steel might have me try again on the model. For me this is the worst ergos ever in a spyderco.

I like how the Positron looks and really want to try one but reading several statements like this, along with the lack of a functional Spydie hole, has steered me toward the Mantra 1.

I lie the looks also. I wouldn't be surprised in any way if we saw a bigger positron one day with a functional hole and a larger handle with some hot spots changed a bit.

I totally agree. The Mantra 1 will be my next $100 plus Spydie and the Rhino will be my next sub $100 Spydie

Never held one, but the scales look wicked thick. Not sure I could get used to that.

I can tell you without question that the Mantra 1 is a better knife. I own a Nirvana now, and I can say that, while the Nirvana is probably "better" in certain ways, the Mantra is still my favorite in the collection. I wanted a Positron when I first saw them announced, and I might still get one down the road. But, I'd wanted a Spyderco flipper, and the Mantra ticks all my boxes: better handles(don't care for the Southard G10 or the Domino/Dice pattern), functional hole, and great steel(definitely liking the M4). I can really see the Mantra being a knife that is appreciated very widely in a few years like the Caly3 or PM2. The real wallet test is going to be any new versions of it, whether a sprint run in special steel(maybe a high-end stainless like M390/CTS204P/CPM20V?) or especially any new production versions.
Also, to clarify my Mantra/Positron comparison, I've handled the Positron a lot, especially before the Mantra came out and I switched to that one for Most Wants. The Positron isn't awful, but the Mantra is on another level in the hand. That and M4>>>S30V.

I've never handled either, but I thought the Positron was smaller than the Mantra...?

I like both and lately it's been one or the other backing up the Nirvana...and by backing up, I mean doing all the work..lol
seriously, they get most of the work..for the most part just pull the Nirvana to thumb it open for that solid thwack!!!.. But I've had no problems with either the Mantra or Positron as far as smooth action goes, but I did take some sandpaper to the Positron to really take the point off the scales, and lightly on all the edges to give me a better feel in hand...and RIL's are my favorite lock type...so I'd probably give the edge to the Mantra if I could only have 1 of them...but then for like an office setting or Church CF is more gentlemanly.....refer to Spyderco Motto....get both.

Haha!! Based on my track record these past few months I will likely do that. Although, I keep telling myself that I need enjoy the one's I have for awhile so I can figure out which one's I really like and which one's can go (yeah...right! Haha!). Then I see another model that looks good and decide I need to try that one. At some point the buying will settle down because this knife hobby is seriously starting to hinder my ammo budget.

Yeah it is. I'm not comparing them directly per se; more like, the Mantra is better at what it is than the Positron is, if that makes any sense. Or put another way: There is nothing I would change about the Mantra, but there are things I'd change about the Positron.

See, that's one reason I'm not into guns as a hobby; you have to feed them all the time. :p

I like my Positron a lot- contoured grip and the slim, flipper, blade are usefully shaped.

A real surprise on this sprint but this one's a no from me.....
Orange handle with a H1 rescue oriented blade?- :)
Orange handle with a black blade and hardware?- :D
Orange handle on a gent's folder :(
Warhammer 40000 is- basically- Lord Of The Rings on a cocktail of every drug known to man and genuine lunar dust, stuck in a blender with Alien, Mechwarrior, Dune, Starship Troopers, Fahrenheit 451 and Star Wars, bathed in blood, turned up to eleventy billion, set on fire, and catapulted off into space screaming "WAAAGH!" and waving a chainsaw sword- without the happy ending.

Good point..I think black blade and hardware would have got me...very curious decision to go the route they did.

Something like that would have gotten me quite interested, regardless of steel choice. A Sheepsfoot or Wharncliffe, either PE or SE.

 Wow, I couldn't find this thread at first. I looked up and down and thought I must be going blind. Then I checked the second page and it was halfway down. I didn't think the frenzy around this exclusive was going to be huge, but I never expected it to be this quiet around here. Especially not on the day the knife is released!

I thought the timing on this knife was bad before, but now that the CF M4 PM2 is about to drop there is no way I can swing this knife anytime soon. It looks really nice though, and I'm definitely getting one.
Most recently acquired: Military 2, Paramilitary 2 Tanto x2, YoJUMBO, Swayback, Siren, DLC Yojimbo 2, Native Chief, Shaman S90V, Para 3 LW, Ikuchi, UKPK, Smock, SUBVERT, Amalgam, Para 3 CTS-XHP, Kapara, Paramilitary 2 M390
Grail Paramilitary 2 M390 X 2! ACHIEVED!!

If they lower the price after a while like knife works just did on their military... I'll be interested. I wonder how many pieces they ordered and also wonder if this knife will still be around a year from now...

I figured this exclusive would get some more love than it currently does. I am a sucker for orange (and s35vn is one of my favorite steels) so I had to pick one up as soon as I saw it on their Instagram page. I definitely post pictures of mine when it comes in.

So the question/ reason this exclusive is so quiet is what...

-Bad timing with all of the other sprints?
-Same price as the carbon fiber?
-Positron just isn't a big seller in the first place?
-Anything other that I am missing?
