You know, growing up I was given the impression that a CT CC permit would cover otherwise illegal knives too, like autos, balis, and anything over 4". Imagine my disappointment when I found out that I'm now allowed to carry an instrument designed specifically to severely injure other human beings, but not my cute, handy little auto Mini Stryker because what? It's dangerous? It has no point other than to hurt people? The only people who can carry them here are police, fire, or military personnel. It's a little annoying that we let that one get away from us, but oh well. It's not like I haven't carried and used it without issue for the same reasons no one jumps under a table when I cut my lunch with my PM2. Though I won't dare try to bring my Replicant to work. If you have to open that without fanfare then there's no point in using it!

Sometimes I really scratch my head on where they choose to draw the line with laws. My permit allows me to carry switchblades, throwing stars and nunchucks, it even lists those items specifically. I burst out laughing in my CCDW class when I saw that it actually says weapons of mass destruction, like what exactly does that mean? Can I carry uranium? Napalm? It's hilarious to me that when they were writing that law someone said "listen, I want this permit to literally open the door to carry any weapon a person thinks they can carry on their body". It makes me wonder if you could actually carry a bomb under a coat and get away with it.

Actually now that I think about it I'm curious about how far permit reciprocity goes. My permit from KY allows me to carry in OH, but I'm not sure that also includes all the allowances I have in KY, so I'm not sure if I'm legal carrying a Military in Cincinnati. Hmm. Gotta look into that.

I've carried a knife every day since I was in high school. I carried it clipped to my pocket throughout college where they were strictly prohibited (I was a stupid kid and didn't care at the time), but still no one ever said anything to me about it. I also worked in fast food and often flicked it open in the presence of other people. They would make comments sometimes or ask why I needed it, to which I always replied, "A gentleman always carries a knife." People usually just chuckled and that was the end of it.

I generally don't flick my knives open around other people anymore, but I still carry a knife clipped to my pocket every day. I've never had anyone ask me what's in my pocket. Don't think I would ever ask anyone that either. It seems like an invasive question. Still, if someone did ask me I'd probably offer the same response I always have: a gentleman always carries a knife. :)

Most of navigating life is confidence. Often this has a touch of nonchalance.

It rarely happens but I usually go with, "oh a pocket knife" in the same tone I would say "oh an iPhone 6s". If that prompts a follow-up question my go-to reason is, "to open mail and packages, it's most of what I do at work."

Most things only become weapons with intent. Most stabbings occur with makeshift items (screwdrivers, kitchen knives, etc) rather than high-end modern folding knives. I can't imagine many people have been attacked with $500+ knives.

It does not. Regardless of what your permit may cover in your state of residence, while in another state, you must abide by their laws. This is a common issue that gun/knife owners face. What is legal in YOUR state may not be legal in the states/counties/municipalities you frequent.
