Slicing and dicing with the Sprig

Post by SouthernCross »

Not only can it clean fish and shave pigs, but the Sprig also make a mean kitchen knife to slice and trim bait sized peaces of steak and dice up the left overs for use as Berley.

I really like the size of that knife, and it's very helpful to see it in action! It's been on my wish list since announced. One of the main things I look at when judging whether or not a knife can perform as a kitchen knife is how its overall geometry (blade as well as handle) affords enough clearance for your knuckles to not hit the table/cutting board when making those rocking cuts. Did it feel comfortable enough in that regard? It is hard to tell from the angle of the video.

Hi SouthernCross!

Very nice vid.

While I'm more than happy with my South Fork, really can say the Sprig is growing on me. :D

Great demonstration. The slimness of blade, the homogeneity of handle, and the light weight, as well as the gorgeous steel... I guess I just found my next lover, and we'll date in the kitchen :D

The chopping board was just under 1/2 inch thick (adding this thickness to the clearance from the bench top). In addition, by using the tip half of the blade for the dicing, I had enough clearance so my knuckles weren't hitting the bench top.
