#1

Post by Boar-gen »

Any update about the tests of S110V steel and if Yojimbo 2 and P'Kal will be able to join the Spyderco’s CPM® S110V® Family?

I am really looking forward to some good news! -:)

I was so hoping the Yoj 2 would be there as soon as I saw the title of the article in the byte.

Long time Spyderco owner, first post here (I think...). I've had the Manix 2 Lightweight in S110v for a bit (amazon tells me almost exactly 2yrs), and I just gave my XL to a close friend who was in need of a good solid blade. I've been on the search for my perfect pocket knife now for 25ish years (probably had 20 or more Spydies over the years, probably over 100 pocketknives overall easily), and I absolutely love this blade steel. My knives are all tools, never had the itch to buy a blade as a "safe queen", so when I evaluate a blade , they go up against every knife I've ever owned not just aesthetically but based on performance. I've owned a lot of Spydercos, and have enjoyed each for their own attributes, with the Stretch being a regular go to for several years. The S110v steel is far more durable than most of the other Stainless varieties, and at the same time much easier to restore an edge quickly than say ZDP-189 and easier, which is itself a wonderful knife steel. From my experience, S110v is about the perfect all around steel (for my daily use purposes anyway), and this Manix lightweight in dark blue has been a great EDC tool.

Just got my Blurple Manix 2 in the mail today, and although it hasn't done any actual work yet, I'm looking forward to taking it to work with me tomorrow. So far I've tweaked the pivot screw little, and added a drop of oil trying to get it to match my lightweight but I think it may just need an honest break in period. So far I'm impressed.

I said all of that, to say this: Please one day make a knife with the blade of a Stretch, the caged ball lock action, and the blade of S110v! I'll buy several, I promise, and I'm pretty sure I won't be even close to the only one! And thank you Sal, and everyone at Spyderco for producing some of the highest quality knives around, and with integrity, I might add!

This.
On my radar: 110V Military, Police 4 and some sweet Rex 45 Military action.

Newest Spydies: S90v Ti Military, Pacific Salt and a special Kiwi.

Sometimes I wish I had never heard of Spyderco. Just as I get to where I can get by with what I have, they come out with something else I can't live without! :( :D

I always started out carrying a Millie. I found myself needing a serrated blade a few times...so I started to carry one plain as well as one serrated Millie. In addition, as a backup...aside from a small Leatherman Micra...I always had a custom modified waved karambit. That I only use for SD. It's a bit expensive and I did a lot of work to it...so I only take it out for emergencies. One time, a piece of fabric got stuck in my Millie, and couldn't open it....so now, I carry PM2 as a backup and in the summer time as well. Got a Tatanka, it's a bit much for a folder IMHO....but a strong well made knife none the less. All dressed up in a suit or tux....I carry a Sebenza (karambit all the time). Gonna check out the Yohimbo 2. I missed out on the CF S90V version, so I looking forward to a S110V....but not sure if that will happen.

The more knives in S110V- the better. But is there any news if Yojimbo and P'Kal will be members of the S110V Blurple family?

Regarding the pm2 as the production sample at the time..... im still hopeful for a yo2. Pkal not so much

"I've been carrying a production sample and have had no problems with the steel or sharpening. It's a nice piece. We'll be making all of our US models in S110 as regular production with the dark blue handle (either G-10 or FRN).
