It's been a while since I've had time to go wander, but I had some time today and there wasn't even any rain.

First some shots taken down by the river.

I only saw one Eagle today.

After wandering around the river valley I moved up to a hiking trail at a little higher elevation.

I stopped to do a little shooting before coming home and came across this poor goat.

It finally stopped raining...for now. :D

Today I started on a trail that I have never hiked before. The trail was nice but there was no scenery other than the trees.

I hiked a couple of miles and then decided to see if I could get to a trail that has some great mountain views.

A forest grouse was on the road as I was leaving.

Image

My goal was to get to the top of Tongue Mountain but there was still too much snow on the road to reach the trail head.

I decided to just wander where there are no trails.

I didn't wander today, but the weather was good so I went to the woods for a little target practice.

I started by testing a new trigger that I made for my Buck Mark. It worked great! :)

Image

Image

I then moved on to something a little bigger. Forty rounds of .45 all in the black.

Image

Image

After the warm up these guys didn't stand a chance. :D

Image

I also got in a little practice with my Kahr. Here's a group shot.

Took the wife and son for a hike today. These falls might look familiar to those of you following this thread.

We started with about three fourths of a mile of switchbacks. Up, up, and then up some more.

Image

Stopped for a rest and a couple pictures.

Image

Image

Looking down at a small creek...or is it a crick?

Image

This one is almost always clipped to my pack and ready to venture into the woods.

Image

We finally made it past the first set of switchbacks.

Image

Image

A nice view of the first falls.

Image

Another shot of the Bradley.

Image

After going up, down and around the hillside we made it to the next big falls.

Image

And then we weathered a brief shower.

Image

Here's another shot of the Tasman.

Image

Look! I found a hobbit. :D

Image

Just a couple more pictures to finish with...

It was a gorgeous day so I decided to try hiking to the top of Tongue Mountain again.

There was still snow blocking the road but I was just over a mile from the trail. I figured this added about 2.5 miles to my hike.

Image

Around the first corner and I can see my destination.

Image

I finally made it to the trail. Only 1.7 more miles of uphill to go.

Image

The main trail had a lot of limbs down on it but it wasn't too bad.

Image

The first trail is open to motorcycles but the last .8 miles is for hikers only.

Image

I made it to the saddle between the two peaks.

Image

Image

Image

Image

The next four photos were take at the top from the exact same spot. (360 degree views)

Mt Adams
Image

Mt, St. Helens
Image

Mt. Rainier
Image

Looking over the edge at the Cispus River valley.
Image

Tower Rock with Riffe Lake behind it.
Image

A couple photos taken on my way down the mountain.
Image

Image

I made it back to my truck and these puppies are feeling a little tired. :D
Image

Sorry John, no eagles today either. I did look in the usual spot, twice actually. :)

I sprained my ankle a couple of weeks ago so it's been a while since I've been able to hit the trails. Today I decided to wrap it and see how it would feel after a couple of short easy hikes. I packed light and only took a few pictures:

Awesome pics! Where abouts do you do alot of your hiking at? I am up north in Lynnwood so most of my hikes are around the North cascades. Such beautiful country we have here.

Hi murph, I do most of my hiking in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest out of the Packwood, Randle and Cispus areas. Sometimes I'll go into Mt. Rainier National Park or hike around Mt. St. Helens Volcanic Monument. I also have a great summer job where we hire several crews of high school age kids to work in conjunction with the forest service and do all kinds of jobs up in the woods.

Thats great. I use to hang out around there alot when I lived in Yakima. Now I spend my weekends checking out the northern cascades. Hope your ankle held up well today!

The ankle held up well but I can tell that I should hold off on any strenuous hikes for a while longer.

We are lucky to live in an area with so much natural beauty. I did a lot of hiking around the Yakima Canyon when I was in college at CWU. It's a lot different than the west side of the mountains but still beautiful. :)
