Carbon fiber material

#1

Post by spyderwa »

I was always under the impression that carbon fiber had to be black. I found this site for robot builders that has colored carbon fiber/kevlar sheets.

It also has some good tech. info. I am already thinking of possibilities with the colored red sheets. What do you all think? Ideas?

I love the looks of the blue and the yellow. The red isn't bad either.
Kolotsi(sp?) makes a line of folders in colored CF.

I think you mean Klötzli, J Smit?
That is a Swiss knife brand.

I've seen silver G-10 and it looks awsome. Now I wonder if they make silver CF...

I've seen pics of the Klotzi folders and they are quite nice, though pricey. I did see a silver G10 folder at the Oregon Show last year. I think I like the CF better. I would like to see a higher end sprint run in colored carbon fiber. A blue/red CF Delica perhaps.

They do make aluminum coated carbon fibre, there also is gold coated out there. These coating are extremely thin and do nnot affect the mechanical properties of the material.

Most of the carbon fiber used in knifemaking seems to have a thin resin/poly coating over the actual fibers so would the thickness of the metallic coating matter? Also since some of these colored carbon fiber sheets say they have kevlar mixed in would they be stronger, more flexible, or ?

Alex they do indeed make silver C/F it's getting harder to find in the thickness I need tho.
I know this sounds like an ad for them but these are great people to deal with and make THE BEST c/f products I've seen www.dragonplate.com now if we could talk em into producing different colors (hopes Rebecca is reading this) they sent me a sample of their new product this week, laminated c/f sheet just perfect for F/B handle material when its cut and polished it shows layers kinda like Micarta only with that super classy look.
