The Vrango folder

#1

Post by Henningsson »

Hi!
My name is Michael Henningsson and I live in Sweden.
I am the knifemaker behind the Vrango folder collaboration.
I thought since the Vrango soon comes out it might be a good idea for me to join this forum.
I will gladly answer any questions you might have about the knife.
I think Spyderco have done a great job spydercolize the original design.
I also would like to thank Spydero crew for their humble and professional manner, they have been great to work with.

Välkommen! :)
I like it very much, reminds me of my Captain. I will get one for sure. I would have been happier without the blue anodization but it is by no means a deal breaker.

Hi Mike and welcome to the forum. I have to say the Vrango is an intriguing knife, do you have some suggestions on sharpening the blade to get best performance? It's a bit unusual and has that slight re-curve.

Aha så du kan Svenska!
Thank you for your comments.
The anodizing, well I guess some like it and some don't. I like it and I think the blue gives a bit of a flair to it. Not sure how fragile the anodizing is but I will experiment with it to come.

Johnnie,
Thanks, well I use "edge pal" it's a Swedish sharpening system similar to the Lansky system. However with edge pal I can adjust the angles how I want it. I also use this fixture for chamfers and such. It's a great tool.

Welcome Sir!
If that fine blue's flair, I don't know what to call that beautiful blade.

Thank you so much for your warm welcome!
It sure feels nice to be here.
The folder hasn't come out yet but I got a chance to carry the production prototype for a few weeks last spring and I can tell you it's a heck of a knife.
The properties and performance is right there and you can really feel that it has been carefully engineered by Spyderco.
Well it's night here on this cold Island "Vrångö" so I guess I have to tuck in.
Thanks once again and I will try my best to answer any questions you might have.

Welcome to the forum!

I think it is wonderful to be able to interact with Spyderco's collaborators about their designs! Though I already own several hundred Spyderco knives, it looks like I may end up picking this one up as well, it looks beautiful!

Did you design primarily as an EDC? What have you found it excels at? How hard have you used it? I like it by the way

I fell in love with the Vrango when I first laid eyes on it. I know some folks aren't fond of the blade shape, but I'm digging it. I'm sure it will sharpen up just fine on the Sharpmaker too. The only thing keeping me from getting one when they come out is the price. I'm going to have to save up my pennies for a while to get one.
