Proficient. This is all subjective, of course. For me, the most foundational knife, the one I would have if I could only have one would be a "medium" size fixed blade. I'm not talking about EDC knives, but the one knife that would do 90% of what I would ask of it. Fixed blades are hard to beat: no moving parts, no screws, pivots, locks. Having spent a deal of time in various woods, mountains and wilderness and farms, I tend to lean toward fixed blades. Not so much now since I'm old and now live in town so I carry Delicas and Dragonflies, but where I live now it is not unusual to see men going about their business wearing a sheath knife. Or a pistol for that matter.

Of all of the fixed blades I know about, I believe the Proficient is the one I would choose.

The action, detent, edge and sexiness are the best of all my PM2s! Great build on this one!

Unfortunately, polls on this Spyderco Forum have been limited to just 10 options.

However, one can take the top 10 from this thread to create a new thread with a poll limiting the voter to just one choice.

It is a poll. It just doesn't work the same way as many other polls. :) I will be counting the total number of votes for each knife at the end of the year and announcing the winner, just like I did last year. If someone else wants to count as well, that would be great to double check mine in case I make a mistake.

All Black Emerson Matriarch 2 for me......Because: Reasons. :D
Warhammer 40000 is- basically- Lord Of The Rings on a cocktail of every drug known to man and genuine lunar dust, stuck in a blender with Alien, Mechwarrior, Dune, Starship Troopers, Fahrenheit 451 and Star Wars, bathed in blood, turned up to eleventy billion, set on fire, and catapulted off into space screaming "WAAAGH!" and waving a chainsaw sword- without the happy ending.

I think the forum limits polls to ten choices. How many knives came out last year! :D

That would be pretty neat. Say on Christmas make a poll with the top ten options and close that poll on New Years. I am not going to say anymore about it though because I'm not willing to do any of the actual work. There's certainly nothing wrong with just counting up the results of this thread like last year. Polls are just fun because it's like watching a horse race. :p
