How do you store??

#1

Post by average-Joe »

I have a small collection of spyderco folders. I have a few fixed blades non Spyderco. I'm pretty sure I'll just keep the fixed blades out.
I'm wanting to store the folders them in something safely. I was thinking a small tackle box with adjustable spots. I've seen the roll out types with little sleeves I think even Spyderco sells them. What do you use to store your knives?

I keep most of my knives in my closet inside the containers seen below. Each drawer is lined with some of the padded foam that ships with the knife from Spyderco. I just cut them to size. They seem to store just fine that way. Both of these cases were bought from Home Depot for about 20-30 bucks each.

Then I have this box next to my bed for those knives that are in my current rotation. The box was from my local grocery store, originally made for holding tea. Cost about 10 bucks.

This thread pops up every now and then so I simply copy pasted my response from the last one above. See here for more people's take on storage.

In my gun safe. Folder holder has been built in five different stages and pieced together as my collection has grown. The final, upper section was then last one added. It's a different color because I didn't have any of the silver left since it had been awhile since I added to it.
Fixed blades on wire screwed to the door. Less expensive knives are in a storage container drawer.

*Edit: I didn't notice the white Ladybug on a magnet in the door photo until I posted and was looking at it....might be kinda tricky to spot. I actually forgot it was there.

I've seen this discussed a few times here before. Here's a thread from a while ago.

Thanks for the thread link.... Really cool. I don't look at my "collection" as much as the standard collector. I buy them to use hard. I don't mind displaying them, but to me they are simply tools. Some nicer then others all designed to get used. I used to be a man of money. First day I owned my AMG Mercedes convertible I drilled a hole in it for a CB antenna. People thought I was nuts but I only buy stuff to enjoy using. So even when I made a fortune I enjoyed what I owned. I owned a Hubot Big Bang watch and changed car oil wearing it. I personally never saw the need to keep things in boxes. If I buy it and can't use it I don't need it. Now I live the opposite-life I once did, I live very very simple. Walked away from stress and live off the electric grid. My knives are about my only luxury these days...But one things never changed I buy nothing to collect only use.

I totally understand what you are saying and do hope you are happier now. I have and do in fact use every knife in my collection. Just because I keep them in my safe doesn't mean they are "safe queens". I went through a phase of not using some and then decided that if I didn't use them, there was no point in owning them. Best regards.

@ spydersense very cool! I can see storing them in a secure location. I only have a small amount of knives with a fairly high value. I couldn't imagine some of you guys with huge collections. I think I'd lock them up too.

@holland that pic did literally make me "lol"

After being on this Forum for almost 10 years, I very seldom see topics, which never were discussed before. Still new discussion can bring something new. New ideas, new members.

@ bh49 I totally agree. No one thread will ever be the same. There's always new people joining forum (like I just did) and new ideas. I was an admin on a forum for nearly a decade. I'd hate when members would say all the time to new guys "use the search"
If you really love the Spyderco brand, then encourage new ones to ask questions even if it's been discussed a million times. It keeps your beloved brand on top of Google, and the Companies name is endlessly getting promoted.

I agree, there is nothing wrong with topics being revisited and when this happens there is nothing wrong with pointing others to old information on the topic. :) :spyder:

Mine live in a pair of aluminium flight cases- each have three layers of foam inside.....
Delicas and smaller in one, Larger to largest in the others.

Having built the GITD Delica toy kit I had the nameplate left over I decided to glue it on the bottom case

Warhammer 40000 is- basically- Lord Of The Rings on a cocktail of every drug known to man and genuine lunar dust, stuck in a blender with Alien, Mechwarrior, Dune, Starship Troopers, Fahrenheit 451 and Star Wars, bathed in blood, turned up to eleventy billion, set on fire, and catapulted off into space screaming "WAAAGH!" and waving a chainsaw sword- without the happy ending.

How are my Spydies stored? Well, they are stashed away safely in case made from 1/2" thick titanium that is sitting next to the Batmobile.

Nah, I lied. The case is really made from 1/2" cobalt. ;)
