So your PM2 must be the Friday casual day knife when you can break out those jeans! I am glad to work in an office which doesn't hold to the old norm of suits/ties/slacks/etc...twinboysdad wrote:For me in business casual, yes it is too big. If I wore jeans to work the answer would be no.

Re: PM2 - Too large to EDC?
Not too little - Not too large
Hi mad german!
And welcome to the Spyderco Forums. :spyder:
The Para2 is not exactly a little knife, but not exactly huge neither.
Don't confuse it with the Millie, that is a real pocket sword.
Maybe you're considering the handle/blade ratio? It also isn't the best on the market.
But it certainly is a time proven workhorse design. No Matter What. :D
And always remember to check your local laws.

Re: PM2 - Too large to EDC?
At first I thought this was a typo or maybe I read it wrong. :D The PM2 is about the SMALLEST knife that I carry. I realize that people have different size preferences and some small knife fans apparently would be happy with a knife the size of their fingernail while other people carry the really big ones. Some people complain about the blade/handle ratio but I don't see why that should matter. YMMV of course.
The PM2 is light and thin, and very easy to carry. My EDC rotation includes a Manix 2, Manix 2 XL and a Military. I also occasionally carry the original Bradley Folder. These are all easy to carry in my jeans, I don't even know they are there. I generally wear jeans to the office and I carry all of these to the office. Yesterday I had to go to a business meeting and carried my red digicam PM2 clipped in the pocket of my Dockers. There are situations where I think the PM2 blade is barely long enough, but I also select a knife size so I can get a good grip on it. If I have to cut things where I need to exert some force, I want a handle longer than something like the Delica.

Re: PM2 - Too large to EDC?
As I see it, this topic has two sub questions that need answered, and together they'll answer the main question.
1) How comfortable are you handling and using larger blades? Some people play mind games with themselves on this one. Go into your kitchen and get a chef's knife and do some random utility tasks. Cut down a box with a steak knife. How does it feel? Probably less crazy than you expect because you use large knives like that often in a kitchen and the size never bothers you, but fold that knife and put it in your pocket and it becomes gigantic.
2) How will the people around you react? What are the laws in your area? Where do you work and what are the policies there? These are ultimately more important than anything else.
As a bonus question, do you really need a larger blade? I mean really NEED it? How often do you cut material that actually requires a 3.5 inch blade? Like me for example, at work I cut primarily cardboard. I can get by with 1/2 inch of blade in most cases. But, I might have an apple on lunch and play around slicing it up. Don't fall for the hype of a knife just because everyone loves it if you don't really need it.
Now, personally if it wasn't for some of the question #2 issues, I'd probably EDC a Military and be done with it. The only thing I'd wish more of is a different lock, so if I could get a compression lock or CBBL in a Military and not freak out my coworkers, I'd be just fine with it. At the same time I'm quite comfortable with a Ladybug so it's half need and half desire.
One thing you can consider if you decide it's too big for primary use, pair it with something like the Ladybug. Then you can use the Ladybug around non knife people and then your other knife when nobody is around. This is how I always carry a Military.

Its light and thin in the pocket, and it caries very well. For me its to big for edc,but that depends on your needs, enviroment, etc. If dont hate choils you will love the knife, and even if you do its probably you will make an exception in the case of the PM-like i did.
Dont worry so much!If you will like it,great,if not you can flip it easy enough.

Mine just came today. In the front pocket of my dress pants, Delica back in the car. First impressions are that it feels good in the hand and well balanced. Waiting for the mail to come so i can slice it open.

Re: PM2 - Too large to EDC?
OP if you find it to be too large, but like the design you could always try out the para military 3 when it is released. Apparently it is a smaller version of the current para military 2.
Most recently acquired: Military 2, Paramilitary 2 Tanto x2, YoJUMBO, Swayback, Siren, DLC Yojimbo 2, Native Chief, Shaman S90V, Para 3 LW, Ikuchi, UKPK, Smock, SUBVERT, Amalgam, Para 3 CTS-XHP, Kapara, Paramilitary 2 M390

Re: PM2 - Too large to EDC?
Personally I like my EDC to be somewhere between the size of the endura and the military so the pm2 is actually a little small for me. Still an excellent knife.
