I have a delica vg-10, should i be using locktight on the blade hinge screw or not?
also, since I'm here I figured i would ask, what is the advantage of the delica in ZDP-189 and is it available in other steels?

Re: Locktiight on hinge screw?
Has the screw shown any signs of loosening? The factory generally uses a thread locking compound, so I would only replace theirs if it had failed for some reason or I had felt the need to tinker with the screw and "unlocked" it.
As for ZDP-189, some will say it's superior to VG-10 because it holds an edge longer. My take is that it offers deferred maintenance because, while it takes twice as long to dull it also takes twice as long to sharpen. It's also more expensive and less rust resistant.

Re: Locktiight on hinge screw?
Ok thanks,
I had to open it about a year ago to clean out some sand that refused to leave. I noticed recently that the blade seemed a bit loose and wobbly when closed, when i grabbed the screw driver the screw was pretty loose. The lady at spyderco (I forget her name) sent me some of the compound which i still have, i just wasn't sure if you use it on the hinge or not.
I don't mind the extra few buck. I like the better edge retention, mine gets a fair bit of use, but i just sharpened it with my sharpmaker, and in 10 min it went from dull to hair popping (that thing is so awesome btw), and the rust resistance sold me, it comes along to too many humid, dirty places and i need the corrosion resistance. I guess i'll stick with the VG
