S110v Manix 2 Abuse Continued, Steel and Knife review.
Re: S110v Manix 2 Abuse Continued, Steel and Knife review.
Well said cujobob. I would like to see those comparisons, too - task per task against each "super steels." Wish I can afford to do the comparisons myself. I only do basic chores with my vg-10 and just collect and baby the super steels.
"Babying" various S90V, S110V, ZDP-189

I've read about such tests so I did my own. I had an M4 version that someone assembled, and a new S110V version, and some large double ply boxes in my garage. I had sharpened the M4 myself and the S110V had a sharp edge from the factory. In my very informal cutting test the M4 seemed to keep its sharpness a little longer than the S110V. It was suggested to me that the S110V might do better after it was sharpened a few times. There wasn't much abuse in this test but it did take the edges from sharp to pretty dull. I wasn't sure if I would prove anything with my test but it was fun to do.kn!fer wrote: but more so with the member's willingness to test an expensive blade

What kind of edge finish and angle on both?
Re: S110v Manix 2 Abuse Continued, Steel and Knife review.
The S110V version had the factory edge. The M4 version was sharpened on my DMT Aligner with diamond stones at slightly under 20 degrees per side. This goes through the extra fine diamond stone. I don't recall if I stropped it or not.sbaker345 wrote:What kind of edge finish and angle on both?

Yep, I would suggest retrying it with the same angle and edge treatment, the factory edge usually sucks, a optimized edge can easily last 3-4 times longer than factory.
