I dont like them either.Its a unnecessary thing to think about:when should i grip on the choil,or behind the choil?
Except for the Dragonfly,on which i love the choil,but on the DF you realy dont have the option of not using the choil.

It makes sense on the Dragonfly. It allows a 4 finger grip on a handle that is otherwise too small for one.

I try to avoid models that small though. The smallest folder I carry on a regular basis is a Para 2 or Pacific Salt. I wouldn't want anything smaller than that.

I have a Sage2 and Persistence to compare. While both knives are very nice, I think I like the Persistence better.

At this point whether or not I like a choil basically depends on the time of day or the weather. Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't. Both styles have advantages and it's easy to overthink.
