Has Anyone Else Moved to Windows 10 on a PC yet?

That didn't take long, like 30 mins and it was done.

Did you have to back up your hdd? I cancelled my reservation because I was worried about losing all my files and stuff. Also I'm worried about all the spyware Microsoft have included in this update, apparently Microsoft can access your files and emails whenever they want and if you activate Cortana it will again have access to your files, webcam and microphone.Ankerson wrote:That didn't take long, like 30 mins and it was done.

I thought it might be best to wait until any issues have been resolved :)

Nope, no issues here at all.

I like Windows 7. :)
Windows 10 is different, very fast and the Edge Browser really works well, better than Chrome that's for sure.
Will take getting used to as things are in different places than Win 7.
As far as I can tell so far it's nice.
Oh forgot.
Running Win 10 Pro, upgrade from Win 7 Pro.

I upgraded from 7 and I like it so far. My dad has an 8.1 computer and it constantly crashes, the apps don't work, and things open and close on their own. I think he will enjoy the upgrade more than I will. I just like getting every other windows OS. I might be an early adopter in this case.

Me too, these days.demoncase wrote: I'm a 'plug'n'play' kinda guy when it comes to computers....I'm like that 67 year old granny who takes her little 2-door to the local garage and has zero idea of the things that may (or may not) be happening under the hood- so long as it starts when I turn the key- I'm golden
That's part of why I just use an iPad for everything.
Just say'n
But I do hope all goes well with you W10 upgraders.

Re: Has Anyone Else Moved to Windows 10 on a PC yet?
I have thought about "downgrading" to 7 on my notebook but since 10 is coming out I reckon I'll back this up and give it a shot. Like Evil D and presumably most folks who have worked in production Wintel environments, I usually prefer to give a new version a couple of years to work the cooties out before I start using it. However, since I always dual-boot on my main computer anyway (I'm running Kali Linux right now, looking forward to the new version on Tuesday - but I am probably going to replace it with something tweaked up for audio production) and since I personally have a policy of never rely on Microsoft alone to handle my computing needs, I may go ahead and mess with 10 just to get comfortable with it (Depending on what MS's future plans are for regulating and certifying that Win10 hosts are geniune, I may go back to 8.1, or 7, or just flip out and get that monstrosity off of my hard drive).
Re: Has Anyone Else Moved to Windows 10 on a PC yet?
I normally wait a awhile too as I was in the IT field also.
I have more than one computer so for me it's not all that big of a deal to change and try it out.

Re: Has Anyone Else Moved to Windows 10 on a PC yet?
Been a week since I put it on my PC and, so far, no issues aside from the minor annoyances I mentioned earlier. To be honest though, I haven't wanted, needed, or used, very many of the new features. Tried Edge, still prefer Firefox. Tried Photos, still prefer Picassa. Task View, OTOH, has come in handy a few times.
Not really sure why I became an "early adopter" on this one as the PC was working fine on Win 7, but I'm not sorry I did. I turn my PC off every night and Win 10 loads quite a bit faster than Win 7 did.

the same here. I like it so far. It didn't crash yet. Probably will upgrade my wife's laptop in a month or so.

Re: Has Anyone Else Moved to Windows 10 on a PC yet?
Win 10 has crashed on me about 4 times now, all related to video drivers. I'm using an older NVIDIA card, so that might be the issue. I think it applied another update yesterday, and since then I haven't had anymore issues.
So far, I'm liking it. As others have said, it's quite a bit faster to load than 7 was, and I'm using older hardware. I haven't tried EDGE yet, mainly because I remember how awful IE used to be.

Hardware driver issues will crash any OS pretty fast, video card drivers can be some of the worst offenders.

"Friends don't let friends use Microsoft products."
I switched over to Linux in 2004 and haven't looked back. The hardware issues of old are 95% resolved and the distros are more polished and smoother, the software packages vastly improved and the whole OS is faster than anything Redmond can crank out. AND...you can breath new life into a older PC by switching to a less resource hogging distro, making it less clunky than with a comparable MS product.
I usually convince 8 to 10 friends a year to try Linux out after listening to their Windows frustrations and to my knowledge none have went back to Microsoft afterwards. This includes, housewives, businesses, farmers, teachers....blue and white collar folks, because you don't have to bee a geek/programmer to run Linux anymore.
Virus and malware problems are reduced to nearly nil also.....a HUGE issue for internet cruisers and those who receive lots of email.
Just a thought.

Different strokes for different folks.OldHoosier62 wrote:"Friends don't let friends use Microsoft products."

I've had Ubuntu Linux on one of my computers for about 6 years. IMHO, it loads only marginally faster than Win 7 did except when it decides, on it's own, to run a diagnostic first and takes darn near forever. Again, IMHO, there's nowhere near the quantity or quality of available software, especially when it comes to the type of single player offline games I enjoy. The stuff that is good, works just as well on Windows. Then again, I can't honestly say I ever had a single frustration with Windows 7, or Vista or XP for that matter, aside from always wishing Microsoft had included the pinball game from NT with them. The only system crashes I can recall having in the last 10 years were power failures. No issues with malware either, but then I don't visit porn or file sharing sites or engage in other high risk activities. Ubuntu Linux, on the other hand, hosed the Windows partition on a computer during an update. Linux MAY be more stable for those who leave their computers on 24-7, most of the Windows "crashes" I've heard about involved machines that had been running for weeks or months, but I have never felt the need to do that.

Yeah, different strokes..
I also used to run Linux back when I was in the IT field, more than one version and on more than one machine, used to run 6 PC's on my network plus a server.
Never really saw the point over running Windows personally as I didn't have any problems with the Windows boxes I was running at the same time.

Re: Has Anyone Else Moved to Windows 10 on a PC yet?
I've found using a bit of care (ESET virus protection) and buying good machines (Asus, Lenovo, etc) makes the PC life with Microsoft products less painful.
