CF -or- almite cricket?

#1

Post by AllenETreat »

www.Hamonoichiba.com

I got a choice - CF ( about $80 ) which I

understand is highly heat resistant & more

"artsy" and -

almite ( about $54 ) which I had originally

back in 95'. Is this stuff really scratch

resistant? ( I never had my almite Cricket

long enough to find out <img src="sad.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>)

I'm shooting for PE as I'd call this my "badge" ( not to be confused with

the song by Cream - from their last

album ) and it'll become my new EDC.

My SE will see service on & off, but

will be "retired" for the most part.

What say the augurers?

I have the PE CF Cricket - it's nice. Heavier than I imagined.....but as a user, the SE FRN beats it.

The Cool -

See, I'm looking for more of a "for show"
( the SE FRN's days of work are over, as it
just stays clipped to the pocket ; people
are IMPRESSED by it, but I'd like to show'em
a classier version <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>) The Ying/Yang cricket's still offered as well by Mr. Hasegawa, but I'd like to stay within the
two choices ( CF -or- almite ) BTW - what's
the weight ( in ounces ) of the CF model
( I can't read Japanese! <img src="sad.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>)

J Smith -

Got any idea of it's weight vs. FRN?

Gang -

Here's a tech/trivia question : weight of
the almite, and weight of the CF.

FRN is 1.25oz -or- 36g
I'd like to get as close to that as possible.

Hey Al, I weighed mine on a Tanita food scale:
FRN PE 40g
CF SE: 50g

I really like the CF, but I like all of the crickets!
CF is nice because of its good looks and rarity.

Its thickness is just right too.Not as think as the FRN or almite but thicker than the SS.

rorschach & J Smith -

Looks like CF ( until all the votes are in )

BTW rorschach - what'd ya' think of Bernie
Schaeffer's portfolio? Everyone it seems took a big "hit" when that "bubble" broke!

Bernie's insight ( and my friend's judiciousness this time around <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>) bought
his portfolio up $2,500 this past Friday!

While not an investor, I like that "contrarian" approach to investing.
Now, where to get $100K to do the investing?

J Smith -

Pity ( or a dirty low down cryin' shame )
gotta wait 'til the 3rd ( payday for me )

Hopefully your websearch isn't in vain &
someone else here can use it <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

SE wouldn't be a problem ; I carried SE for
most of my Spydie totin' "career" <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

Keep an eye on it.It doesn't look like it is going to sell and I bet he relists it.At the end of another 7 days would get you close to the 3rd.

Might be worth a trade for a Matriarch
( as I don't carry the **** thing! ) -or-
an SOG X-Ray Vision ( the Pentagon Elite's
my favorite ) The thread goes on -

Hi Allen,
An interesting read, but I'm more of a traditionalist when investing, also a "tortoise" as opposed to a hare. I don't play commodities or futures, I leave my gambling for Vegas. <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>
My stuff is coming back, albeit slowly. I'm a "buy and hold" kinda guy. 2004 has been good so far, I'm almost even from my bubble losses.

So's my buddy Jim. He'll "short" every now &
again <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> and is just about even since the "bubble". It can't be all that bad though : Look what happened to Jesse Livermore!

Here's a "quotable American" -

"640K ought to be enough for anybody."

Bill Gates of MicroSoft

Warren Buffet he's NOT!

OBTW - Have you read this year's "Stock Trader's Almanac ( 2004 )"? I got Jim a
copy for letting me stay at the Marshall
ranch until I find suitable "digs".

How's this for an idea -

I was just on One Stop's site and gandered
at the SS Cricket - how about a CF slab on
one side ( as the <img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>benza lock prohibits
any handle material )?

BTW - BestKnives.com has the grey Calypso jr. for $43.95 under "out of production &
special interest" on their <img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> portion of
their website. <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

Allen, you could put material on both sides of the SS Cricket. Instead of a frame lock you would have a liner lock.

About your first question, get the Alu Cricket. It's a classic, and it makes a real 'cricket' sound when opening. And you can take it apart for cleaning. IIRC you can't take the CF apart.

I'm with Ted, a CF slabbed SS Cricket would be a great idea!

I've not taken the CF Cricket apart, but I see no reason why it cannot be done. It's an all screw construction. (see my pics from earlier post)
