Carbon steel, US made but UK friendly, sounds too good to be true.Peter1960 wrote:I hear the good news and give you a friendly hug in advance ... The 52100 MT1 Mule remains one of my absolute favorites.sal wrote:52100 is a ball bearing steel. Most ball bearing steels make pretty decent blade steel. Especially where edges are concerned. It is my favorite steel to forge. It is hard to find in sheet. Actually, I would like to do a run of a model in 52100, but I'd prefer to make it in Golden, so it will be a year or so.

Re: 52100 steel
How do you say 52100 out loud? Five-two-one-zero-zero? Fifty-two-thousand-one-hundred? Something else?
Just curious

Is 50100-B essentially 1095 cro-van (carbon v, 50-110B, 0170-6)? I still have trouble with all the different names sometimes.Cliff Stamp wrote:52100 is likely not trivial to get in knife stock, 50100-B or similar steels likely would be far easier.

I think of it as "fifty-two one hundred." Not sure if there is a correct way.bpahk wrote:How do you say 52100 out loud? Five-two-one-zero-zero? Fifty-two-thousand-one-hundred? Something else?

Here in the Netherlands I'd also rather take a lock, preferably a Native 5 lw. :D
(wouldn't mind a Manix lw either!)

Re: 52100 steel
You'll just have to convince Latrobe/Carpenter or Niagra to roll it to the thickness you need. :Dsal wrote:52100 is a ball bearing steel. Most ball bearing steels make pretty decent blade steel. Re: 52100 steel
It is one of the most common cutlery steels and has been called a large number of names by pretty much everyone who has used it. The thing to keep in mind that most of the basic production knives used basic production hardening and therefore what you can get from the steel isn't generally reflected in very inexpensive knives.Nate wrote:

Re: 52100 steel
I would love a ukpk in this steel. I probably wouldn't buy a bigger knife like a para2 tho. Would prefer it in a smaller edc knife
