Least/most parts in a folder
What spyderco folders have the least and most parts?
This is just out of curiosity!,
while sharpening my spy-dk
I counted,
2x handle slabs
1x blade
1xback spring
1x clip
6x bolts
So 11 parts.
Without handling either of the below, I would say the:
dog tag may have the fewest
And the new jani song could have the most,
(Both an uneducated guess)
Thanks

Re: Least/most parts in a folder
Least has to be any of the one piece molded FRN models. The Native LW and Dragonfly for example have just one piece of FRN for the handle, a pivot bolt assembly, and the clip and two piece bolt. The only way you can get less is to remove the clip.
Well, speaking of no clip, the Ladybug only has the handle, two pieces of pivot, and a blade, so 4 pieces.

You forgot the lockbar, lockbar pivot, and lock spring, but 7 is still probably about as low as it goes.Evil D wrote:Least has to be any of the one piece molded FRN models. Except for the first generation Q with 6 (handle, blade, lock, clip, and 2 piece pivot screw).

Re: Least/most parts in a folder
Doh yeah forgot the lock stuff. Man that's tough. Maybe the friction folder if it ever happens?
Re: Least/most parts in a folder
The Sage 3 has to be in the running for most parts. I took one of mine apart once and was amazed by all the little parts in there. It's quite the engineering feat to make that many parts fit together and work so smoothly; at a $130ish price point to boot! Unfortunately I don't have my Sage in front of me to get an accurate parts count.
Re: Least/most parts in a folder
SALT ONE => 8 parts
1. blade
2. left scale
3. right scale
4. lock pin
5. lock
6. Pivot pin
7. clip screw
8. clip
Re: Least/most parts in a folder
The new Nirvana is likely the lowest, unless you count the individual parts of the bearing.
Edit: Maybe not, looks like:
-Mono handle
-Detent ball (don't forget this!)
-Blade
-Clip
-3x clip screws
-2x pivot screws
-1x pivot
-2x bearings
12 parts total.

Re: Least/most parts in a folder
Just checked my tool bag, not sure if the ss grasshopper has washers.
If it doesn't
I've got
2x handle slabs
1x back spring
1xblade
3x flush scale pins
So a possible 7 parts on the ss slippies.

- barrel bolt clip screw is 2 pieces, not 1 and at least some barrel bolt clip screws also have a washer on the off side
- there are washers on both sides of the pivot pin
- lock spring
So 12 or 13 parts total

Re: Least/most parts in a folder
The Rubicon is pretty high in the parts count:
2x CF scales
2x Ti liners
4x scale alignment pins
2x back spacer tubes
4x body screws
1x back spacer
1x stop pin
2x pivot screws
2x stainless races
2x pivot bearing assemblies
1x Ti pocket clip
3x pocket clip screws
1x detent ball
2x G10 pivot collars
1x blade.
30 parts total, assuming I didn't miss anything.

well, i was not quite specific about that screw...The Deacon wrote: But you missed a few:

I could bet that on mine are nylon washers as a part of the scale... (rised circle?)The Deacon wrote: - there are washers on both sides of the pivot pin

Re: Least/most parts in a folder
Wow, that's quite a few parts there, I was thinking the most parts in a folder would be around the 20ish mark.Able Dog wrote:The Rubicon is pretty high in the parts count:

Re: Least/most parts in a folder
The new Squarehead looks like it could be in the running for least.
It's got
Ti Handle (all one piece)
Blade
Detent Ball
Pivot (either 2 or 3 pieces, I don't have one but if it's similar to the DogTag it'll be 3 + 2 washers)
So that's 8 pieces total

Re: Least/most parts in a folder
You are correct about there being a series of raised concentric nylon ridges inside the handle instead of separate pivot washers. However, I was referring to the two washers on the outside of the handle, under the domed heads of the pivot pin. On your Salt 1 they are black, and clearly visible in your photos.tap78 wrote:I could bet that on mine are nylon washers as a part of the scale... Re: Least/most parts in a folder
The FRN UKPK has to be pretty low.
2 FRN Slabs
1 spring
3 flat head pins for the screws to land into
3 screws
1 clip
1 blade
That's 11.

Re: Least/most parts in a folder
I count 8 parts total on a Ladybug; blade, two pins. two washers, lockbar, spring, handle. The count should be the same for the older Clipit models with the molded in clip.Evil D wrote:Least has to be any of the one piece molded FRN models. Well, speaking of no clip, the Ladybug only has the handle, two pieces of pivot, and a blade, so 4 pieces.
Stainless slip joints like the Bug probably have 7; blade, three pins, back spring, two handle scales.... or 9 if there are blade bushings.
Squarehead looks like 6 total and that includes the detent ball as a part, five if you list that as part of the frame.
