Meerkat = Disciplinary Action?!

ALOHA!

Okay, so I recently acquired a Meerkat (Mahalo Waymond!) and brought it to work. I open the lil' guy and while my partner and i go onto the MP Floor to deal with 96 inmates all out at once, I "challenge" my SGT. at the time to try to close it before we lock down the unit for the night. My SGT.'s had the some nerve to ask over the radio, "Is this a fixed blade?" "This is a trick, right?" One even asked, "Where's the G** **** band-aides?"

Anyway, I just thought it hillarious when after locking down the unit, my SGT. that night(Coincidentally, the one who was asking for the band-aide) "threatened" to write me up if I didn't show him how the Meerkat closed. LOL! His cut wasn't funny, but his sheer frustration was a joy to behold!

Great knife for such a use, but has anyone REALLY used their meerkat on a EDC basis? Some feedback please...The only thing really stopping me from "experimenting" w/ it for EDC use is the liner holes...Salty Hawaii air will find its way into everything.

Gosh it's great to be back!

Hi,

Yeah, actually I DO carry one as an EDC. I ordered it online, and I didn't realize it was made of AUS 6 steel, so I was a bit skeptical at first. But, hey, the heat treat on the steel has convinced me that it can most definitely be a user! It goes through cardboard boxes better than I would have expected.

Another plus is the small size, as I work at a retail establishment, I don't really need co-workers or customers jumping back ten feet when I thumb open the blade.

Can't say too much about any corrosion problems though. It's still a bit chilly here on the East Coast and I haven't exposed this knife to too much sweat, so I don't see any spots of rust at all. However, I did wipe the blade down with Tuff Cloth before I started carrying it, so that might help as well.

Daywalker, they allow you to carry a knife inside the prison?!

When we enter the prison where I work, we have to go through a metal detector to ensure that we're unarmed. To be caught bringing a knife in would be an automatic firing.

****, they search us more than the inmates!

Wwlcome back DW, I wouldn't work were you do without at least a Glock 18, and a year of hard training!

Isn't this forum great: one person rely's on a knife to possibly defend his life, while the next person post's how that same knife cuts through cardboard.

Aloha, Daywalker!

I'm "on again, off again" w/ the PE reverse "s" one ( thanx fredswartz!)
Prior to that it was the 440C PE standard
blade I got from 1SKS

I love they way it frustrates the un-initiated!

m_calingo - welcome to the forum!

Daywalker - welcome back. I don't have a meercat but I once carried a navigator as my EDC. My newest EDC is the lum chinese folder, so now the navigator seems a little small for use. However I still think the knife is a useful size for those locations where you don't want to attract too much attention.

Hi Chad,
I play with my Meerkat (SE reversed S) a lot but I don't EDC it. It's funny to play with it and to show it to your friends (and the Phantom lock ™ is such a cool feature) but I preffer my trusty old "Dialica"
As EDC, I think the handles are a bit too bulky. I'd rather go for a G-10 Navigator instead.

I recently purchased a Meerkat (SE Rev S) and I love it. It is definitely one of my EDCs. The Rev. S shape is very useful and the SE edge is great. It is a good balance to my PE EDCs. Right now I'm reaching for it more than my other knives.

Aloha and thanks for the input everyone.

Uh, Jim...NO, I am not allowed to carry a knife at our facility. the only blades I do carry 24/7 are my elbows and knees. Our facility is SO prehistoric, we do not have the M.detector yet...that's how some recent NA's were able to bring in some knives...but well, admin ain't dealing w/ it so...you DO know how that goes.

ANDALEX!!! I TOO, would carry a DIALICA over the Meer...if only someone would make it for me(hint-hint)! LOL!

Ahhh, CIVILIAN, a G18...1300+ rpm, select fire...I WISH! We still use revolvers on transports!

Take care everyone!
