meh, my dad has the worksharp. He destroyed 4 or 5 of his knive's tips until I finally got him on the sharpmaker. I use his worksharp every now and then freehand to adjust or reset a bevel when I am feeling lazy but the sharpmaker sees 99% of my use.

That other thing looks like a PITA to use. Get yourself a sm with the diamond (or cbn) rods and call it a day.

I have both, DMT as well as CBN rods and I don't see any difference in performance. The verdict on difference in durability is still out, but the question seems mostly academic as it will be years until the first result will trickle in. Both rods seem to be equal & extremely sturdy.
I don't see a difference between them, apart from the fact that the new CBN rods are a quadruple more expensive to produce then the probably outdated and older DMT one.
What seems stunning to me - from a producer perspective, as they cost the same.

We haven't been given a definitive answer about the difference between the diamond and CBN rods. It has come up many times and so far Cliff's review is the best we have got. They are essentially the same and Cliff, who has sharpened more than a couple knives, couldn't tell a difference so unless you get an answer from Sal you should probably just order which ever costs less.

I would vote for the CBN as they are the new product and cost exactly the same then the older DMT - delivering the same performance.

I have had my sharp maker for 10 plus years. I have 2 sets of diamonds and the CBN rods. The CBN rods are awesome and cut more material off than the diamonds. They are more aggressive in my experience. The diamonds work fine just seem a tad less coarse than the CBN. The sharpmaker is the one tool I will never be without. It is in my experience the best sharpener for knives made. I have owned many different types of sharpeners. I do use a KO Work Sharp for larger blades, well worn blades that need major work, or axes.

Btw how do you clean the rods? Just warm water and say zalo? Or some hand soap?

And use the sharpmaker dry only?

Yes that is all. :) I have the sharpmaker for about 2 years now and no cracks have ever accured. (Note they are fragile my brother dropped his medium stones from the table and they did not survive so handle them with care. :) )

Can not help you with the scandi grind question since i have not yet have one. :)
