Spydie polymer trainers
Spydie polymer trainers
Thought I'd post some training knives I've made. The Spyderco trainers are EXCELLENT, but only available for a few models, so I make my own. I match the handle thickness, jimping, etc. While they don't fold, they work very nicely for extended drills and training where you aren't deploying the knife repeatedly. That's what the drones are for. :D

Nice work! They look comfortable and useful. How do you cut/shape the material? Belt grinder?

Those are awesome, but you still lose draw/open training as compared to an actual trainer blade. Still good work though.
Re: Spydie polymer trainers
Obviously, which is why I referenced that in my post. You have to have a folding trainer for training deployment, but if you want a training knife to match a knife for which there is no trainer made, these work nicely for that. They're also much gentler on your partner than a steel or aluminum drone. Not always a concern, but very nice if you're at, say, a weekend seminar.Evil D wrote:Those are awesome, but you still lose draw/open training as compared to an actual trainer blade. Thanks for the kind words everyone.

VERY nice. :)
I have had a Spyderco trainer in a pocket most of the time I've been in the dojo for years. These days, it's an ARK trainer.
