Silverback - Don't let anyone tell you different. The ATR is not availble at this moment. Spyderco is very sorry, but the sub-contractor that supplies the Titanium scales is not producing the numbers required. This is one of the main reasons that an SS- ATR will be introduced later this year. If you are interested in an ATR, mail me.

Allen-

Looks to be a very good price on theATR, but a little too much for me! Have you had a chance to see and handle one? Man that thing is beatiful. I wish they would have given itit's own blade style/shape. It shares the Impala blade. I would have liked a drop point with a flat grind! But I guess it wouldn't beas nice looking.

Now the cricket> This is the one that I have to get Liz. You know she has to fight off those boys....

Spydercostore.com has them for $179 and says nothing about a pre-order.

That's been there for a while, along with the Paramilitary and the Yojimbo. I doubt they have any of those in stock.

Speaking of ATRs, anybody know of a reasonably-priced seller that has them actually in stock? I've been looking to buy one for a couple of days now, but so far they're either US$200+ or not in plain edge, which is what I want.

Edited: If the seller accepts PayPal too, that would be great. I looked at 888knivesrus, but like I said they have it at US$200+...

I got some bad news for ya': PayPal has this
new policy of paying for "weapons" using PayPal ; alot of merchants are no longer accepting PayPal because of this.

Check out www.OutDoorAmericaStore.com ;
they have a "why we no longer accept PayPal"
section of their webpage.

PayPal : Sold out to "sheeple"!

Oh, great! That's just bloody fantastic. Can't wait until eBay bans such "weapons" as knives as well... Ah, well. I was torn between getting an ATR or a Sebenza. Will probably get the Sebenza, just have to see what all the Sebenzanistas are raving about.

I just read the paypal firearms restriction. I didn't see anything that would exclude the purchase of knives. They probably haven't gotten liberal heat over that yet.

Vess: I presume you are deciding between an ATR and a large Sebenza. I own both an ATR and a large Sebenza (with leather inserts). While the ATR is a great, well designed knife, it is not equal to the Sebenza quality, nor is it as expensive.

I do love the agressive styling of the ATR, since my large Sebenza looks quite boring to me. The ATR, on the other hand, needs a periodic tightening of the pivot screw, while the Sebenza never needs an adjustment of any type.

If you can buy them both you will be very happy with them. If you can only buy one, buy a large Sebenza.

On the other hand, my EDC usually ends up being my Spyderco Military. I end up carrying it more than either the ATR or the Sebenza! At first I did not particularly care for the Military. But after a short while carrying it, it has become one of my favorites. It is strong, light weight, simple and really sharp. Plus, at $100.00, it can be replaced, easy enough, if necessary.

It's none of PayPal's business what I purchase with my money, anymore than it's my regular bank's business. Therefore I make it a point not to TELL them what I buy, and sellers would be well advised not to either.

p.s. I've used PayPal to purchase rifles in interstate commerce using my C&R FFL. They didn't know or have any need to know.

I know what you are saying, but it's a bit difficult if your knives come in the main from eBay!

Yeap, when not paying for stuff from EBay I don't usually let them know what it is I am buying.

As for the ATR and Sebenza business, I'll get both eventually. The Sebenza deal actually popped up a day after I posted on the Wanted to Buy forums, so it'll be the first, and ATR will wait another couple of months. I looked at the sizes, and actually decided on a small Sebbie instead of the large one. The large just is too big for most of my tasks, and I don't want to scare people anymore than I have to. Actually the Sebenza I considered only because so many people were emailing me asking if I can make a Sebbie sheath, and then realizing that I am in Canada and deciding not to bother with international shipping. Now at least I'll be able to make Sebenza sheaths whenever I feel like it. And finally I just wanted to see what all the fuss about the Sebenzas was all about. After all, many Spydies have the same blade steel and the same blade size, some even the same grind. And I too find that they look very plain and even boring, not nearly as exciting as most wild Spydie shapes. I guess I'll know what it's like when I get it. Doesn't mean I am abandoning Spyderco, far from it. I jsut suddenly came to have a little more disposable income that I thought, and if I don't do it now who knows when I'll have the next chance to try a Sebbie.

Actually, unless the Sebenza really impresses me, its only purpose will be to serve as an outline for sheath moulding, while something like a Native or a Delica will still be in my main rotation. More than a year after I got the S30V Native, and I'm still amazed at the bang for your buck with this knife...

I have been doing a fair-amount of selling of old stuff on ebay and PayPal lately. There has been no difficulty with Paypal & knives that I'm aware of. If they do in fact institute a no-knife policy, they will have seen the last of me!

Vess,
I used to be in the same boat as you. Started with spyderco and the likes, discovered the Sebenza, and now I'm back to Spyderco. The sebenza no doubt is a very well put together knife, I don't like it anymore. The small is too small, the large is too heavy IMHO. I used to love my large Sebenza. I babied it, carried it all the time, only used it occasionaly on cutting food and flowers. I loved the blade shape, thought the edge could be a little narrower, but just didn't like the chunky slab titanium handle. I kept going back to my Military for everything. I did have an ATR also and I want it back. Even though it's bigger and heavier than the large seb, I still loved it! It had a great blade shape and edge grind, and it looked really cool. You really need to make the Sebenza descision for yourself, but if you want a knife like that, I'd highly recommend a Tom Mayo TNT over it.
