Eastern European Spydercos?

#1

Post by Surfingringo »

Could some of you help me compile a list of Spydercos that have been designed by Eastern European knife makers? What about Marcin Slysz? Serge Panchenko? I really don't know but I believe there are a few and wanted to look at what those knife models are. Any help appreciated.

I don't know if Serge would be considered as "Eastern European" as he now lives in Calfornia. The "Square Head" folder by Darriel Caston is the other model. He lives in a "village" near Serge, also in Calfornia.

The Hungarian is nice but I'm not sure who designed it.

I kind of like that little dogtag. I am running out of reasons to buy Spydies and pockets in which to carry them. The dogtag may not be the most useful design but it would be easy to justify as I could always have it with me without even having to think about it. Yep, I think I like that idea. ;)

It's an ethic series knife so I would guess that Mr. Schempp did but I'm not positive.

From the Spyderco website -
The latest edition to Spyderco’s groundbreaking Ethnic Series of knives, the Hungarian folder pays homage to the traditional pocketknife of Hungary. Designed by Hungarian architect and knife enthusiast Szakonyi Gábor, this beautiful knife faithfully captures the graceful lines of the traditional “fejesgörbe” (“header curved”) folding knife, as well as the spirit of quality that typifies Hungarian folk art. Featuring Walker LinerLock construction, full stainless steel liners, sculpted stainless steel bolsters, polished G-10 scales, and a full-flat-ground CTS™ XHP blade, this extraordinary knife represents a powerful links between traditional artistry and state-of-the-art manufacturing.
Currently enjoying Spyderco's in - S30V, VG10, Super Blue, Cruwear x4, CTS XHP, S110V x2, M4 x3, S35VN, CTS 204P x2, S90V, HAP 40, K390, RWL34, MAXAMET, ZDP 189, REX 45

It's a fair number of knives. Would be a fun project to pay tribute to our European friends :). If work wasn't so silly this time of year I would be down for it.

Fred Perrin alone has made some great projects for Spyderco. The PPT was a collab of his as well.

Hey B. Fred Perrin is French so he doesn't count this time however we should probably start a thread about him because I see he has a lot of interesting new custom stuff :D

They haven't designed any knives for Spyderco yet but Poltergeist Works from Poland are licensed to use the Spyder-hole. Would love to see Spyderco make a production knife using one of their designs :D

Erg, sorry. :o

I had to be the stereotypical American and not know the difference between east and west it seems. Someone had to take the predictable stumble, glad it was me, lol.

Don't feel bad, Blake. I was home-schooled k-12 and generally wouldn't have known the difference anyway. :o ;)

Hey, wouldn't the original Spydercard (and its designer Eduard Bradichansky) qualify for this category?

This would be such an awesome collaboration if it ever happened. I follow poltergeist works on Facebook, there are so many great designs. I know they are open to the idea of a collab, not sure if Spyderco is though.

I would love to see a collab as well, it's probably the only way I'd be able to afford a Poltergeist knife :). I really like the pivot hole design, would suit a Spyderco so well :D

How about this 3605f model? (a flipper)

I am sorry to post a non Spyderco knife (Not really since it is a beauty :P ) My Kocsis Ferenc hand made Fejesgörbe with horn scales and silver bolsters, carbon steel blade.
Spyderco does catch the essence of it perfectly, but this one wins my heart :)
