MeerKat reverse "s" PE

Post by AllenETreat »

Just got this today. It's part of a trade

for the Lum folding tanto w/ fredswartz

( thanx Jerry! ) Kinda sad to see it

taken out of production ; I think it was

a good alternative to those that didn't

like the Cricket's liner ( Walker ) lock.

What say the augurers?

Allen,

I kinda thought the Meercat was one of the "bestest of the best" underrated Spydies. It rides below your pocket line on the wire clip and has the lock that most guys (outside of "us guys&quot just can't figure out ... grinning. When I stack it behind my CoPilot / Experimental / Navigator lineup ... It's kinda clear where the basic design came from. IHMO, it's a keeper and one you'll carry.

I got one about 6 weeks ago. Sweet knife, but I hate the wire clip. It bent completely out of shape the second day I carried it clipped to my pocket, and I can't figure out what could have happened. Aside from the not-strong-enough-for-me clip, a nice knife. It's in Golden CO now, getting fixed...

edb: I keep hearing people complaining that the wire clips bend or break easily, but I personally haven't had any trouble with them. When you say you clip the knife to your pocket, do you mean that you clip it so that the knife is on the outside of your pocket? Or did your MeerKat get damaged while inside your pocket? If the knife is exposed on the outside of a pocket or a belt, etc, I could see how the wire might not hold up to the force of the knife getting snagged on something.

On the other hand, one of the things I actually like about the wire clips is that they ARE easy to bend, so that I can adjust them to have just the right grip on my pocket...

Yup, I love mine. It's my low-pro sheeple friendly slicer. Gets alot of use when I know I won't need something bigger.

I carried the Meerkat for almost a year as EDC and I love it. It's sheeple friendly, it's sharp and the Phantom Lock is really fun.

What I would like to see:
A rev-S PE Meerkat with black G-10 machined handles and a CPM-s30v blade. That would be cool.

timlara: When the clip was damaged, the MeerKat was clipped to my pocket such that the knife was inside my pocket, and the clip exposed. My beef is that the standard metal clips found on my Delica and Endura have faced quite a few "catches" on things that actually stopped my walk - yet they were undamaged. By comparison, I don't even have any idea what the wire clip on the MeerKat could have gotten caught on, but whatever it was (and it couldn't have been much), it was enough to trash the clip, and loosen it from the handle. 3 torx screws positioned around the outside of a wire clip handle (to hold it in place) just don't compare to the standard metal clip, held in place by a through-hole connector, in addition to being held steady by a square-shaped cutout in the handle...

This is my all time favorite of the line up. I have 2 just in case I loose or break one. now that this specific model is being discontinued I may buy a couple more.

It's small, sleek and fits right in my small hands. I get a kick out of showing my friends the Phantom lock. I have never had a problem with the Wire Clip like the others have had, In fact I prefer it to the orginal clip. My only beef with the clip is I don't have a bit small enough to unscrew it from the handle.

I have a reversed S Meerkat in SE and I find it very entertaining. The Phantom lock™ is such a cool feature...
OTOH, the handles are a bit too bulky for such a small knife.
I think a hawkbill blade would fit nicely there...

Hooray! I'm in agreement with Allen on this one!

My Meerkat has a SpyderEdge, but that S-Curve makes it behave like a giant serration. It's my usual right-hand knife and, for a while, was depressing me because it handled 95-97% of my cutting chores as good or better than my other folders.

I received one of the drop-point versions with the spyderedge as a gift. I really like the way it felt in hand. Of course, I really dug the Phantom Lock too!

I just had to get the reverse-S model (PE) when they went on sale at SFO.
