This thread seems to have come about by a hint from Sal that they have been playing with the steel and might do a run of the various FRN models. In theory that puts it a ways out.

Granted, we have been surprised before. The Superblue knives came in a frenzy. I just wouldn't hold-off shopping for holidays on the basis these are going to drop in the near future.
K, thanks. If HAP40 doesn't work out, I myself wouldn't mind HAP72, just saying ;)

I am very excited for HAP40, going to need to get my hands on a Spyderco with "voodoo steel".

And yeah, G10 Stretch is nice too.

I'm excited about picking up a Delica in SG2. It would rotate nicely with my Delica in SB. :D

What are the properties of HAP40 steel?

According to zknives:
C 1.27-1.37
Cr 3.7-4.7
Mo 4.5-5.0
W 5.6-6.5
V 2.8-3.3
Co 7.5-8.5

It is classified as a HSS (high speed steel). I'm sure someone more metallurgically knowledgeable will come along soon.

I think the most readily apparent difference between these two is that one is stainless and the other not.

Can't wait for the titanium/damascus Endura! The others are close seconds, they just don't work quite as well ergonomically for my hands and tasks.

Love the FRN blades, especially in very interesting steels! But I'll have to go for the G10 Super Gold's as well.
Both steels sound great.

The Deacon wrote:Don't think there's a single steel the Japanese would be willing to use that would make me want another Delica or Endura. Spyderco simply makes too many other midlocks that work better for me than those two. As for the Stretch, my interest depends completely on the properties of HAP40, a steel which I know nothing about. If it's more stainless than ZDP-189, and holds an edge as well or better than VG-10, I'd be at least mildly interested. If it's close to H-1 in terms of stain resistance and close to ZDP-189 in terms of edge holding, I'd be very interested. If it's even less stainless than ZDP-89, not really.

can't wait for both versions. I'm on board for a delica of each. I think SG should have tan/gold-ish frn.

I was wondering the same thing.

I'll definitely be buying a couple dragonflys and Delicas in hap40, and most likely the supergold delica as well

Hi Cobra,

We didn't bring any to the Meet. The protos were with black handles so we could approve of the blade.

The super blue scales were bluish so it would make sense if the super gold scales were goldish. :)

Pulling this thread back to the front page.

We know the HAP40 will be burnt orange.

But what color will the scales be on the SG2 g10 delica?

It's looking like "smurf blue" G10 for the SG2 steel G10 Delica/Enduras. Sal just chimed in.
