Yep he's who I learned it from. Sounded absolutely insane at the time but it makes sense especially on certain steels.
Same here! I still use this technique, in fact I used it today on two K390 knives.

Starting fresh by cutting off the old fatigued edge before building a new one on a sound foundation. The idea also blew my mind at first.
