Because desolate places allow us to breathe. And most people don't even know they're out of breath.

The only time that I do not have a Spyderco Native Chief on me is when I'm sleeping or in the shower.
If Spyderco makes on in Magnacut or LC200N I'll put one in each shower here.

i'm not trying to be critical. i'm just curious... what utility does the df2 add to this mix? do you carry it to do something the others can't, or just because it's kind of your calling card and weighs nothing?SaltyCaribbeanDfly wrote: ↑Sat Jul 29, 2023 5:24 am

That’s funny cuz there’s always a Spyderco on my nightstand, usually the Siren or Pac Salt SE but I don’t know about the shower, things could get uglyNaperville wrote: ↑Sat Jul 29, 2023 5:34 amThe only time that I do not have a Spyderco Native Chief on me is when I'm sleeping or in the shower.

i've carried my pac salt to the shower many times when showering in a public gym shower or at the beach. i just clip it to my toiletry bag. :)SaltyCaribbeanDfly wrote: ↑Sat Jul 29, 2023 5:41 amThat’s funny cuz there’s always a Spyderco on my nightstand, usually the Siren or Pac Salt SE but I don’t know about the shower, things could get uglyNaperville wrote: ↑Sat Jul 29, 2023 5:34 amThe only time that I do not have a Spyderco Native Chief on me is when I'm sleeping or in the shower.

Well it’s kinda my little buddy that you never know is there until you need it plus it’s my fidget toy which I know you can relate to…tbh I use it more than the other two combined, punches waaaay above it’s weight…now I’m not saying it can do things the others can’t but I’d never be without it, kinda like your Pacificladybug93 wrote: ↑Sat Jul 29, 2023 5:38 ami'm not trying to be critical. i'm just curious... what utility does the df2 add to this mix? do you carry it to do something the others can't, or just because it's kind of your calling card and weighs nothing?SaltyCaribbeanDfly wrote: ↑Sat Jul 29, 2023 5:24 am

While I would rarely (bordering on never) be able to justify carrying 3 knives, especially 3 dedicated knives, I don’t see much redundancy here.ladybug93 wrote: ↑Sat Jul 29, 2023 5:38 ami'm not trying to be critical. i'm just curious... what utility does the df2 add to this mix? do you carry it to do something the others can't, or just because it's kind of your calling card and weighs nothing?SaltyCaribbeanDfly wrote: ↑Sat Jul 29, 2023 5:24 am

If any, there’s more SE than I’d ideally want. Preferably I’d choose a PE Dfly as it really really shines for controlled precision cuts and that’s not really where I like to use serrated blades. That said, we only have what we have and my only salty Dfly is also the SE, so if salt level corrosion resistance is a must, I’d be forced to make the same choice.

I carry a Salt Dragonfly PE probably 95% of the time in my right pocket , always carry big in left side . A friend gifted the Dragonfly and like the Delica told me I needed to appreciate smaller knives . He was correct . MG2SaltyCaribbeanDfly wrote: ↑Sat Jul 29, 2023 5:24 am

But you could say it, cause it sure can.SaltyCaribbeanDfly wrote: ↑Sat Jul 29, 2023 5:57 amWell it’s kinda my little buddy that you never know is there until you need it plus it’s my fidget toy which I know you can relate to…tbh I use it more than the other two combined, punches waaaay above it’s weight…now I’m not saying it can do things the others can’t but I’d never be without it, kinda like your Pacific
While the salt SE may not be the ideal example, the Dfly platform is extremely useful for small precision cuts, and even more so in tight spaces like e.g. wiring cabinets.
A wharncliffe Dfly is my primary and only knife for >90% of my workdays, because for what I do, it does it better than any other knife I own.
As far as my Dfly salt SE goes, it didn’t achieve the prominent role I had anticipated. I was on a SE kick back when I got it, and the idea of SE combined with that high hollow grind on a already thin blade stock was irresistible at the time.
With the wisdom of hindsight and given how I’ve come to primarily use my Dflys (primary or secondary knife for precision tasks), I would probably have been better off with the PE version. It’s still a very good knife and since I had the foresight to do a very rudimentary reprofiling job on it as well as snap a few mm’s of the tip very early on, it’s not worth much on the secondary. So despite a pretty slim use case I can allow myself to keep it around for those few occasions where I need a very pocket friendly SE laser beam.

Re: What Spyderco is in your pocket today??
Well said…and you’re right, the Dfly is fantastic for tight areas…I would love to have a k390 wharnie, I hear it’s an amazing box cutter among other things and now that I’ve kinda ventured into the tool steel world I can really appreciate how well it performs…the high hollow grind, the spine swedge and the overall shape of the Dfly blade is definitely my favoriteaicolainen wrote: ↑Sat Jul 29, 2023 7:03 amBut you could say it, cause it sure can.SaltyCaribbeanDfly wrote: ↑Sat Jul 29, 2023 5:57 amWell it’s kinda my little buddy that you never know is there until you need it plus it’s my fidget toy which I know you can relate to…tbh I use it more than the other two combined, punches waaaay above it’s weight…now I’m not saying it can do things the others can’t but I’d never be without it, kinda like your Pacific
