What about something like that:

I asked Luke from CSD in Germany to have his father design a shorter Para handle for me. I also wanted the handle to be trimmed at the front to make the blade look longer. Overall, we managed to cut about 2mm at the front and 3mm at the back, mostly by reducing the bulge. More could be removed at the back by removing the lanyard hole, which I am planning to do on my next modification.

I love S90V but you should give CPM-D2 a shot while you can still find it. I would not want to lose the Comp Lock, though. I much prefer it to the Caged Ball lock.

Well, I have yet to buy the para but I have two millie's. Btw, I think the Translucent scales on the Leafstorm are beautiful. I really think they should be tried on some other models. Perhaps the Paramilitary would look good with these?

I would take off that hump at the end of the handle that makes your pinky uncomfortable.

I cut mine down....

I think Sal's original suggestion from 2006 is ideal. I'd rather see evolutionary changes rather than revolutionary ones for the Para. Of course, all the other recommendations made in this thread would make an intriguing new model.

The only real changes I would make are tip up carry please, and adjustable stop pin. If you wanted to throw a ball lock on it that would be great also.More colors of g10 would be great ......say like whats on the leafstorm. :D

Losing the compression lock would make it a different knife, not a Paramilitary.

Just like the Manix 2 is not a Manix, it's a different knife.

Blade shape is reasonably attractive, so keep that, but thin it down to 2mm. It's a 3" bladed folding knife for pity's sake, not a hatchet. Ditch the handle and replace it with one the size and shape of the C45 79mm Rescue's but with steel liners and 4 way clip. Make it a mid-lock like the C45, but without the Boye Dent.

Wow....If you wanted to sell that awesome CF Para I'll be more than happy to buy it. Excellent job there.

Start making them in China to keep the price reasonable? :)

I'm new to knives and I just got the paramilitary a few months ago. I like it the way it is. The handle fits perfectly and comfortably in my hand. the balance feels perfect. the blade and handle size gives me good control. It's the smoothest spyderco I have. If you make any more changes other than clip options, the knife may become more like another knife rather than it's own. If I could only have one knife this would be it. and lets keep making the paramilitary in the USA.

Like it was said before a blade just under 3" would sell more.

I think a framelock version with ti and g10 would be popular. But thick ti slab. Not like the leafstorm. Way too thin IMO. I don't even consider that a framelock in the traditional sense of the term. But that's another story.

1. 4-way clip
2. lowrider clip if possible
3. Reduce the hump in the back so your pinky sits more comfortable
4. maybe a bit bigger blade so the ratio between handl blade would be a bit better

Those are all the things i'd like to see (have handled para's a lot but N# 3 is the one that really botters me.)

Hope it helps :D

Now that I am a Para owner/user (D2 foliage green) I have some ideas...

I think the Para is a special knife - even though I typically prefer smaller knives and tip-up carry, I still love the Para! It is super light for its size, and I love the foliage green G-10 with nested liners. Blade shape is just about ideal. Comp-lock is awesome and mine is super solid over a few months use. It is very easy to swing closed right handed with fingers in a safe position. So I think it is pretty great as-is, but if there is going to be a refinement...

1. I would like a tip-up option.
2. Something needs to be done about the bump/ridge at the rear of the handle. Mine is filed down so I can get a fairly comfortable grip without using the finger-choil, but the handle is plenty big enough that I think it should be redesigned to allow a grip behind the finger-choil, similar to the way the Stretch can be gripped with or without the choil.
3. I think 4mm is overkill for blade thickness, but maybe others would disagree with this.
4. I think a slightly bigger finger-choil would help.
5. Either a slightly smaller handle, or slightly more blade length would make the proportions a little more even (although this is not a big deal to me).
6. The knife rides very high in the pocket, which makes it easy to draw, but I think I would prefer it a little lower. I don't think a wire clip or low-rider clip is good for this knife, but maybe a little less sticking out of the pocket.

The Para is an awesome knife as-is though.

Maybe the next Para should be a '2' and maintain the existing Para (like Police SS and Police 3)?

There is only 3 things that I would change about my Para and 2 of them you already mentioned.

1. Deeper clip
2. Rounding off the end of the knife (improved ergonomics)
3. Bigger finger choil

My Dad has the new Para 2 prototype in his pocket. We’re still listening and refining but progress is being made.
