Para military in S125V ( or ZDP-189 or S90V if it's too brittle or not sharpenable within about 10 minutes on a sharpmaker) with a shorter handle, slightly longer blade with a 3.25-3.33" cutting edge, beefier "millie" pivot, stronger / thicker tip, tip-up carry and no butt-end handle "hook". (ie: a handle profile like the Caly 3 or the the Delica). I'd also like it to keep the compression lock since it's easier to open & keep clean than a back-lock, and the Endura blade shape rather than the wide full-leaf shape of the Manix

+1! My only complaint/gripe/*****/moan about this bad boy. Been my EDC for several days now but I'm scared I'll lose her when riding my motorcycle. :eek:LJK wrote:Low ride clip (or at least lower riding clip) The very high in the pocket profile is the reason mine fell out of EDCA little slimmer would be cool but I may be in the minority on that one.
Well, I am not sure whether there is anything that can be done about this, but the Para is one of the few knives that just doesn't fit my hand. With out the 50/50 choil, my hand simply doesn't fit into the handle and with the 50/50 choil it doesn't really feel right either. If I compare this to the Lil'T or the Manix or the Kris, they all fit like custom made.

I hear ya, HoB. I know exactly what you're saying. The Para is one of my top three favorite Spyders, but that handle just doesn't really fit my hand. I have a Manix and Lil Temp as well, and I know what you mean when you say they just "fit" better.HoB wrote:Well, I am not sure whether there is anything that can be done about this, but the Para is one of the few knives that just doesn't fit my hand. Personally, I think it is the way the Para handle is shaped. There is something about the curves that just doesn't allow my hand to conform to it. It actually feels like a good fit in the pikal grip, but not in standard grip. I've learned to live with it, though.
Don't get me wrong, I reccommend this knife to everyone! The Para is awesome!

Sal,
Thanks for asking. The only change I really care about is to make the choil larger. In its current size, my hand cannot get comfortable, and therefore I have not bought one solely for this reason. It's a gorgeous knife and if it fit my hand, it would be a contender for top EDC, since it meets what I want in a daily carry very well in all other respects.
Again, thanks for caring enough to ask.

As the Paramilitary is advertised as a knife for camping/survival, I would recommend two changes. I would make the blade of H-1 steel. This would make it more corrosion resistant and maintenance free. Secondly, I would incorporate a bottle opener in the blade. This could be done my configuring the thumb hole to look more like the thumb hole of a Byrd. Or else put the opener in the bottom end of the blade, near the lock-up. I got this idea from the Israelis. They make a rifle which has a bottle opener built in.
Just my .02.

I like the Compression lock best for it's ease of opening, but more ambidextrous & glove friendly would be a lot nicer, AND...sal wrote:I guess I should point out that if the lock release sticks out through the scale (so it can be released), it really makes it difficult to have a highly effective tip down clip. The clip hinders access to the lock release. 4 way clips generally require a lock release that is on top or bottom of the scale.
The key work being "highly effective".
a thought to share.

I'm currently thinking a 3.6" bladed version of Caly 3 with proportionally thicker scales might be a realy nice camp & field companion to the more EDC / office orientated Caly 3. The Caly 3 seems a little too breakable for Boyscout campouts, but the Mini-Manix is much too heavy for my tastes...
After some more thought, I think that the following things could improve the design:
4 way clip option standard.
Make H-1 a blade option.
Change the blade pivot screws/body screws to a setup like on the Endura/Delica 4 series where you only need to tighten/adjust ONE side/need ONE wrench to make adjustments.
I love the compression lock, and would not change that. If anything, considering how nice the knife already is, and the fact that the name suggests that it is a rugged, dependable piece, an H-1 blade would be a definite plus. Other models get offered in various steels, so why not?
