Police 4 - Sprint Run with Micro Melt PD#1steel and DHCustomKnifes - Black G10 scales. This thing looks really awesome all blacked out. The Police4 's are just a really awesome knife period imo.

We got this PD#1 steel going for us at the moment and imo this steel is pretty darn good when comparing what we can get other big knives in.

Just not a lot of choices when we get past 3.375"in blade length if you want something really substantially harder than most. At any rate, you guys have a looksee here. As usual my pix are sucky quality and really lack showing off the knives in good detail. But I use what I got lol...

Here is a shot of the Police4 's I have right now on hand. Just last week gave a guy my VG10 that has never had a Spyderco anything and from what I can tell so far, he's bit by our favorite bug now lol.

The two on the right-side are the ones I carry, the black one on the far right is my K390 with black frn scales that I have plans to DLC the blade to see if that will help with the rusting when I carry it in the summer.

Since the PD#1 Blade in these sprint run knives, the K390 project has not been such the issue to get done. Jimo, the PD#1 has been as good for edge retention and I have had no issues with rusting or corrosion.

Thanks Dan, I didn't modify the spot under the clip so it's easy on and off the pocket yet. Figured I may need one for a lefty, so just figure I will wait for whatever comes up or whomever lol...

It only takes a few minutes to hit the spot right under the clip as I did on the green one that I carry that has the lanyard on it.

I already got locals all over the red and black one that are big Texas Tech alumni. May have to make a red and black lanyard for it lol... Then figure out if they are right or left handed.

The white one is my odd one, I was hoping it was going to be a little more translucent in color, but it's a hard solid white. It's growing on me though.

I need to sit down and take the time to re-profile the edge on the green one I carry. I want to take it to 12 or 13 degrees on each side at least.

Heck Sal and a few others on here have some of their knives profiled at 10 dps. I would need to buy two extra diamond stones to get there from the standard 17 dps I have it honed to.

I can only imagine how much better they cut at that sort of angle lol. I have never ran a knife of mine at anything lower than 15 dps and I get on this forum and start reading about 10 dps on the supersteels.

Manix2 in the #20 slot has had the scales dyed black for now. I tacked up 3 pix showing the work and edited the text.

Modifications made on my Smock in location 22 and a couple extra on a post under that when I ran out of space to tack up more pix...

My Smock is way less refined now and more of the junk yard dawg, but it does have teeth now on the flipping tab and while they were chewed in the dark with a Dewalt 20 volt hand grinder and a cut off disk of .060" , all while using a Streamlight headlamp lol. They work well. Have a looksee on my 22nd knife posted. Back a page from here. I got the coffee on and it's hot and strong... You guys grab a cup.

Endura 4 - Sprint Run PD#1 steel and Micarta Scales from ebay and the dealer in Kivi Ukraine, goes by Micartascales all one word.

Finally got these scales in, I bought off ebay, not a big fan of ebay, but these came up with a Google search and they looked good. Wanted something for an Endura4 build from Sprint Run knife, just for the Micro Melt PD#1 steel...

They fit good, needed to leave the knife all loose while getting all hardware all seated properly before hucking up snug. But with things like this, that is a good practice anyway.

They feel good in my paw and they look more brownish with the hint of snake hide in there too lol... So far I like them. The small finger ring that I bought just barely got coated black, I have had it a while already waiting on this project, but this is far from a display knife, so it is what it is.

These signet rings are not expensive enough to be even worth sending back for a coating issue, heck this maybe a paint, I don't know actually. EDC it's fine as this size of knife finds itself in my front right pocket so that signet ring is going to get beat on by everything I come in contact with lol.

Did notice on the scales for right-side tip up carry is drilled, so any of you lefty guys liking a set of these as I did, either ask the guy on ebay if he can set yours up for lefthanded carry, or just plan to drill them yourself...

Very nice scales Jeb! I really dig the green with the black blade. Texture of the scales is also very appealing.

Thanks Paul, I really like the green also, it's just so hard to mess that up when they look like those. They really fill the paw well too, Dmytro in Ukraine really does a good job and he has been great to deal with as well.

I just noticed the scales I got in today and just installed on my Endura4 came from Kivi Ukraine, different guy but those guys in Ukraine both have been great to buy from and they communicate with you throughout till you get them.

I am not a big fan of ebay at all, so I was wondering how this last set of scales were going to be lol. The name of the guys place is Micartasales all one word.

These Micarta scales feel and fit good too. I didn't have to sign up for an ebay account to get them either. I use to have an ebay account and between ebay and PayPal they sucker punched me for just short of 114 bucks on some stuff for a 4X4 truck I was rebuilding.

There was over 50 guys they did this to and through this one vendor in Ohio, wasn't the money so much as we all wanted what they were building and selling, we never got our stuff nor our money back or anything lol.

So I do very little on ebay and only if I can without an account of theirs, they are probably much better now. PayPal the same, I would like to hope they are better too, I just don't use their services to find out lol.

#29 Edit

After carrying the knife the rest of the day, with these new scales the best comment on a good description is it's like these are old fashioned "chiseled" out. They are more rounded and feel really good in the paw.

The texture of them is that of the look and feel of canvas Micarta. Then these have a physical 3-D affect for better grip in the paw. They have a very unique finish about them that is great in the paw.

The snake hide or Lizard hide look while may not be for everyone, Jeb; likes it and these are no exception. I am very pleased with these, I think these were 74 dollars and change with shipping for those interested in that.

Then there is the blade steel here I want to mention, and a picture is worth a 1000 words... If this quality of hard steel had not been available, least for me; this project would have never got kick started. I will not was my time on some softer steel that won't hold its edge. Thank you Spyderco!!!

Sorry to hear about the ebay misadventure. DHCustomknives is on Etsy, good looking scales for a decent price. I've dropped them an email to see if they can make those green scales for the Native 5. I have an orange N5 with black blade, would not mind those green scales you have on the N5 😉

When I bought my first set of those scales from Dmytro, I asked if he made are was going to make some for another Spyderco and he told me with the war going on there, that he didn't know when he would get the time to work on a new model for his stuff.

I just know he does really nice work on his scales and is really great to deal with.

Manix 2 - This has the dark blue G10 scales and the S110V blade steel. Just got this in the post this morning.

This will get a few things done to it in the future, one being the spring will get reworked, probably just cut two wraps off, then close the open end and hone the end smooth has been done to others that were not exchanged altogether and I have not made plans to do that as of yet anyway.

Going to modify the pocket clip like I do every single one of mine and that goes for both solid metal or the wire clips.

Then I do have plans to hone this to 15 dps and then polish out. From there, I have a set of scales on the way for this, but they are an unknown builder, so the jury is still out on those till I get them in hand and have a looksee at them lol.

Last up date they were in France at customs going through all that, then if like the others, they hit New York customs, then the rest of the way to the desert of Texas lol. So probably another 4-5 days at least.

Mean time have a looksee at this really awesome knife as it came from the red and black box.

Edit: 3.1.2025 - I cut 3 full coils off the stock spring, then closed and sanded smooth on the end. I still have not honed the factory edge off yet, or even carried it. I have been carrying one of its bigger brother though, the Manix 2 XL.

Manix 2XL- all blacked out. Black G10 scales and black liners with black S30V steel. Modified the knife with a Flytanium green ball cage and one of their lightweight springs. Made for a nice knife, once all completed.

Third pic down inside the threaded Axle boss you can see the blue Loctite, that some of you have such a problem removing the screws with. It's that light blue fuzzy stuff on the inside of the pivot boss.

Manix2XL- I modified the peel ply texture of the scales right under the pinch point of the pocket clip. Made a small runway right in front of the clip to help the knife slip over the lip of my pocket.

It does fine coming out of the pocket, it's when I am putting the knife back in the pocket is were the chewing is going down.

I would have tacked these pix and info on the #24 knife slot of my gallery but I am limited as to how many pix you can tack up there. So they just get stuck here.

This seems to work well enough, have a looksee. The bottom pic if you look really close you will see the two black sharpie dots, marking the center of the pinch point of the clip.

#22 Smock

I took it all apart honed out nice and smooth the finger Flipper tab that I chewed a groove in on each side. I left that pretty chewed up as I was not sure how I was going to like it or not, so it was just a smoke test.

Now that I have used the knife those two grooves on the finger Flipper are killer, so knife was tore back down and I honed the tab area of the blade all nice and smooth.

While it was apart, I flame colored all the smaller components, screws and the blade thumb clutch button. We will try this for a while and if I don't like it, I will take all these small components back off and rag wheel buff these back to a shine lol.

Here is a looksee at this Smock now.

Got new FatCarbon scales in from Nickabrack on etsy today. These are from France, had to wait quite sometime for these, but wow!!! What a set of scales.

These are about 1mm thicker and the edges are rounded, they feel almost soft in my paw very satin like.

Just look stunning on the Manix2, my pix of the knife are not going to capture these scales as they look and feel in person either.

Going outside and trying to use the natural sunshine is a hard pass today also, as we have the mother of all sand storms blowing outside right now. Here is a looksee at them on the red silicone rubber Spyderco mat of mine under 5000 Kelvin LEDs.
