The lunch date debate! Small 31 is a great little knife.

Handsome looking edge on that drop point!

Both my Magnacut 31's had the best edge I've seen from CRK. I'm guessing its more of a reflection of how it sharpens rather than a change in process over there. I've yet to rationalize a reprofile, but touchups feel much more like a tool steel than the lack of feedback from their S35/45vn on the stones.

That's a good question Shannon. I wonder if VG-10 is deemed to be a better budget steel in Japan than AUS-8. They wouldn't use it in China for the value line since China has its own budget steel 8Cr13MoV. But as a Japanese steel AUS-8 could be a good budget alternative to VG-10. I used it for years before I discovered premium folders and had no complaints minus maybe the manufacturer running it too soft. I think AUS-8 trades a little edge retention in favor of toughness when compared to VG-10. Maybe there is a better relationship with the manufacturer or some other attribute of VG-10 they prefer.
I’m sure… but I still love the stuff (when done right)! And I know JD spydo does too!

Honestly the Bugout is my most carried knife. I love how thin and lightweight it is and the axis lock is awesome too!

That’s exactly what I’m hoping for. Can you remove the glass breaker easily?

All week it has been an Inkosi Insingo and a Case canoe. My CRK looks just like JSumm's, but his pictures are better.

Put a quick 15°PS edge on this guy with the CBN rods before heading into work. About 30 strokes per side with a few extra light finishing strokes.

Nice and toothy, but still carving printer paper. I’ll be excited to see if this edge lasts a bit longer than a finer edge might.

I like the various styles of wood grain going on here. I would say the whiskey too, but I don't know anything about that stuff haha.

She sure is. It's a Lon Humphrey "Ranger"
7.375" blade, .185", oal 11.375, 11.2 oz
Ergos are super nice - Lon makes a comfortable to use knife for sure. The blade steel is Hammer Forged 52100 - everyone says he does a great heat treat- some compare it to 3v. One fella was butcherin a Hog with one, cut thru bone, had some very slight chip & rolls - re-sharpened with changing the angle - went back again, and no rolls or chipping. Of course, I'm not gonna cut thru bone with either of mine but, that's a decent testimony of Lons heat treat. Of course, he is a real Blade Smith as well. Nah, as for the Ranger, I love the way it looks & feels - this is only the 2nd run he's ever made, the original run going on 4 years ago. & I think he may have discontinued this model as well. Don't hold me to it, but he made a little Facebook video saying "get em while ya can" meaning all models available at KSF, but, I looked on his website & the Ranger along with a couple other models are no longer listed. - which, in the video he also states he had already done away with a couple models. Which is a shame for the Ranger, as it's one of the biggest, if not maybe the 2nd largest blade he makes save for the GunFighter. Edit- actually the bell bowie & retribution are bigger as well- All that being said, if you like the Ranger & want a full custom Hammer Forged blade, KSF still actually has them in stock in every flavor of not mistaken- save micarta, which I don't think Lon made any of. What are available is Desert Ironwood, Maple, Tasmanian Blackwood, Dark Curly Maple, Curly Koa, & Double Dyed Burls - which are always pretty neat. Here's s few more pics for ya. Btw, the edges are 17° using Arashiyama 6k finish - just a super large scalpel 😎
