I found this knife on an open air antique market on the bottom of a cardboard box filled with worn out junk knives, and it was inside the blue leather pouch also in the pics, which most likely kept the wood well protected.
Paid the massive amount of 10 Euro (about 10 US dollars) for it.

The steel grinds & sharpens quite easy like most 1095 steel, but it keeps a keener edge for longer.
That is a spectacular find! I have one NYK Co knife with ebony handles. Mine is a boy's knife with a bail. I may have shared photos before. Will do again later.

Enjoy that great find!

that's incredibly cool. those scales are in really good shape for how old the knife is.

How'd the steel feel while sharpening it up compared to modern 1095?

Ebony is incredibly durable and resistant to decay. There are some crazy examples of historic finds where ebony is very well preserved.

Lovely design for an amazing price but boy was it a pain sharpening the full edge.

If I were king of the world I'd issue a royal decree banning knife companies from only sharpening part of the edge. This knife, the Bow River and others are guilty of not trusting the end users enough to sharpen the heel and it's obnoxious fixing them.

Oh my goodness I am so glad you posted that. I have been looking at that model and similiar. I have an Ontario RAT that is like that. Please give me details. How solid does it feel, is the grip G10 or FRN? Is the lock strong? I need as much as you can tell me.

i prefer the avispa and zancudo to the rats. the rat handle feels weird in my hand (especially on the 2). i also prefer the blade shape on these 'esee' models because i'm a bit of a sucker for a spear point. they feel very solid and make you wonder why a delica costs so much. the grip is kind of cheap feeling frn, but it doesn't bother me on a $35 knife. the lock is good to go. some people have complaints, but my sampling (zancudo x2 and avispa x1) has been great. they do feel thin in your hand though, and they're not going to be comfortable if you're bearing down or doing hard work for an extended period of time. for $35 you really can't go wrong trying one out. i like both of them a lot, even though i prefer to carry spydercos typically.
keep your knife sharp and your focus sharper.

The Bugout in aluminum is one of the best EDC packages ever created and very hard to displace.

I wish Spyderco would use aluminum much more often. Light, rigid, cheap, nearly corrosion proof and seemingly easy to machine...I don't understand why it's not utilized more.
So it goes.
