Well, this whole thing has clearly been a learning experience for myself and maybe others. I have no problem taking down the photos if Spyderco feels they're misrepresenting their product. I tried to preface my original post saying I clearly didn't know if they were accurate and it was just for fun. Just bought the thing because I'm getting that nerdy about steel and was frankly just curious, but didn't expect it would be so controversial. Since we're talking HRC, clearly I should've known better.

All that said, I'm still HRC curious at the end of the day and will see about getting some real testing done on the same knives eventually. @Steeltoez83 that tester does look interesting. I'll have to check those out.

I'm not running a spike when I use it Sal. I just make sure I hit the test block accurately back to back before I move to knives. I had to adjust the dial below the reference point to hit those values. The dial itself is small and you can't read precise numbers such as 61.7.

Here's a reading I got off a 15V pm2 that I have been cut testing. I make it habit to take a picture after every reading to reference later. With a tester like this I think you can achieve accuracy within 1 rockwell point. I call this 65 hrc which is exactly where I heard it would be.

I bought mine on amazon but several companies sell them. Mine is the PHR-1 model selling for around $685. Comes with a traveling case, several test blocks for different hardness scales, and a few other accessories. For my needs it does the job.
