Squeak - real of fake?

A place to list and reference all Spyderco counterfeits, clones, and replicas that are found. Anything that isn't a legitimate Spyderco fits in this area.

Squeak - real of fake?

#1

Post by Manspider »

I've taken some close up photos of a Squeak I've just received. Spyderco customer services haven' t been able to confirm fake or otherwise (but will if I post the knife to the USA - I'm in the UK). The logo on the knife has a well define triangle where the spiders mouth is - my UKPK has a v shape here. Photo's and photo of the jimping are attached.
The UKPK and the Squeak are made in different factories and at different times so perhaps this is a legitimate logo?

I have the same fake too! Did you get yours off Amazon as well?

I've noticed some other details which may indicate that it's a fake:

The tang font's kerning is awful (spacing between letters)
The line between the tang and blade (grind line?) is ramped.

The 'Maniago - Italy' is bolder/darker on one side. Might be difficult to see in this photo

You can see the line through the spyder on the box under certain light conditions

Looks legit to me but I only own an Urban. The logos change a lot it on real Spydies. It's possible Maniago has two laser engravers using slightly different logos. Your bug looks like this Damasteel Urban which also comes from Maniago.

Not sure about the letter spacing maybe someone else that has a few can comment. I do however have a factory 2nd from the online sale that has the same ramp on the plunge grind.

The logo might be legit. I found this image on the internet and some factories have a triangular mouth.
