Manbug salt with black screws and blade lock?

#1

Post by ascallonisi »

Hi all,

Just bought a manbug salt from what I presume is a reputable online shop.
The knife has both the screws and the blade lock black coated while the online pictures don't
Wanted to know if it is a fake.

Cheers,
Ale

I see Sal's maker's mark on the blade. I don't think previous versions had that. So I doubt a counterfeit would. The date code on the box indicates it was made last October. So my guess is they CQI'd the model to include the black coated hardware to make it more rust resistant. I think you're pretty safe but you could call the SFO for clarification.

Yea I think both the new black hardware and Sal's maker's mark are rolling CQI changes.
I'm happiest with Micarta and Tool Steel.

Top four in rotation: K390 + GCM PM2, ZCarta Shaman, Crucarta PM2, K390 + GCM Straight Spine Stretch.

Kennethsime is correct, the black hardware is a rolling change that will be incorporated on other Salt models as current stock is exhausted and new production arrives.

Stay safe,

Thank you all, and yes, checked out some other threads on e.g. Dragonfly salt, looks like the change has been done to other models as well.
Thanks again and keep up the community!

Cheers

Hi Michael,

sorry if I bother you.
There are some more threads with changes in the Salt models and questions if these are counterfeits or not.

I' ve got a beautiful DFY 2 Salt today and had the same upcoming questions.

But my model has black screws and clip but the backspring ist not black coated.
Is that also possible?

Hi Ale,

Welcome to our forum.

The coatings have been an ongoing CQI experiment fora while. We haven't nailed it all down yet.
