How can you tell the difference?

A place to list and reference all Spyderco counterfeits, clones, and replicas that are found. Anything that isn't a legitimate Spyderco fits in this area.

How can you tell the difference?

These look exactly like real ones!

The S30V of course would only be on the black, but I can't see any giveaways in their construction that tell me they are fake. If they weren't from China and priced as they are, I would have no way of knowing. How can I know I don't just have a collection of fakes?

About all you can do is buy from well reputed dealers and stay away from sellers on ebay or Amazon with deals that are too good to be true.

Take a look at the G10 slab that the compression lock liner is nested in. The fakes have a closer fit between the G10 and the locking liner with hard edges, and Spyderco radiuses their G10 behind the lock tab.

Is there any way to tell the difference between S30V and whatever cheap steel the fakers might be employing, say 8cr13mov?

^- exactly. It's VERY simple to tell real from fake: Good dealers don't stock fakes (because they buy from Spyderco not Chinaco)

And watch out on eBay, from the looks of things there's one buyer in America who has bought three of them. One I could understand out of curiosity, but three indicates an intent to resell.
