When did Spyderco start selling knives in "clam packaging"

A place to list and reference all Spyderco counterfeits, clones, and replicas that are found. Anything that isn't a legitimate Spyderco fits in this area.

When did Spyderco start selling knives in "clam packaging"

Didn't know about this until I saw it on E-bay.The knife shop where I usually purchase and shop has none in this shrink wrapped casing on a card?.Saw it on e-bay and thought I would join and ask because of all the knock off's.All Spyderco's I have came in a box,and not on a card. http://cgi.ebay.com/New-Spyderco-Rescue ... %3D7218525

When REI carried a few Spyderco models, they came in packaging like that. The Wal-Mart Natives might have too...

I have several Delica 3 models that came in clamshell packaging. I got them from a local knife shop many years ago.

That depends on the color of the packaging.
We would rather be the knife in your pocket, because is "works" better, than the knife in your showcase, because it "looks" better.

They started using clam packs in 1999. However, just like their boxes, the cardstock portion of the clam packs has changed over the years and the design of the one in the auction you linked to makes it current production.

This is probably a Collector's Club knife that was re-sold. I don't believe Spyderco has done any numbered runs of Rescues. One possible exception might be the WTC Rescues, but I'm not sure on those.

My first Spyderco was and Endura that I got from the PX at Ft. Hood back in 1998 or 1999. It came in clamshell form. I'm suprised I remember that :)
