Cheap Civilian Knock-offs

#1

Post by bohica1998 »

Check out this cheap copy of a PE Civilian:

http://cgi.ebay.com/Cold-Steel-Custom-B ... 27adfac66e

He even makes sure he has "Spyderco" in the title so that searches bring it up!

And a search for this item by name brings up a bunch of them with BIN prices equal to the MSRP of the Civilian too!

OK, an expensive ripoff then. But a design ripoff none the less.

Not sure where you are going with that, but this IS the place to post just this kind of thing. Hence the title of this sub-forum "Spyderco-like knock-offs, "replicas" and fakes."

Black Talon has been on the market for a while. Sal has commented in the past that he's OK with it. Doesn't use the round hole opener, has bolsters and a different lock so it can't be easily mistaken for a Civilian and the Ebay seller has it listed as what it is.

I am not sure that copying a blade shape would be a rip off.

I guess this subforum was intended for fakes, for stuff that pretends to be the real thing or is hard to be spotted from the real spyderco product.

A Cold Steel product is this not, whether you like or dislike Lynn and his crew.

I also believe CS has credited and/or paid Spyderco for the blade shape.
We would rather be the knife in your pocket, because is "works" better, than the knife in your showcase, because it "looks" better.

....not to derail but since we are talking about the civilian and since i cant find that thread i will post it here. maybe been posted though, either way: i was watching bad boys today on hbo and noticed the bad guys attacked martin lawrence in the bathroom club scene. he is taking a piss and flicks open what looks like a civilian although you here the "switchblade" sound open but you see the very distinctive shape of a civilian and he tries to attack martin lawernce. sal, how do you feel about spydercos being used so much in movies or tv? you happy, mad, what? you just glad that so many people love them and choose to use them (probably because they are so **** unique) would you like a credit in the movie credits or do you care or how you feel about it? pardon me if you have already gone over this but i cant find that huge thread on the subject. pics anybody?
