Petition for Autonomy 1 blade shape variant

This would probably be my dream knife. It still keeps the edge and tip fairly low while making the blade more versatile than a sheepsfoot. If I thought I could do it right I'd try to modify one myself but it wouldn't turn out as well as the factory could make it.

Thoughts?

This would also be acceptable, drop the edge down a little bit and give it some belly, about as much as a Shaman or Manix 2 would be perfect.

Totally agree, and i'd buy one! Also, a PE version would be sweet.

I didn't make a poll because it would end up looking bad simply because so many people can't buy and own automatics anyway, so it's hard to really guage interest in them. I would just make your voice heard and cross your fingers. I like the Autonomy 2 but the handle on the Autonomy 1 is the only finger groove handle that has ever worked for me and it works so well for a work knife for me it would just be that much better with a bit more versatile blade. I also like that it packs more edge into a smaller handle than the 2.

Thanks Sal.

I gotta he honest I was surprised you guys did the Autonomy 2 at all. Not because I thought it was bad or anything, but you did win an award for the Autonomy 1, it seemed like a major hit but I guess I only see one perspective. I thought for sure you guys would do a plain edge version and potentially blade variants.

I like the Autonomy 1 more than the 2 because it packs so much edge/blade into such a compact size, and the way the handle locks my grip onto the knife, well it works for me exactly the way it was designed to work for the Coast Guard.

At work I'm almost always using my knife with gloves on and almost always in a hurry, and sometimes in high stress situations where I need to be able to draw/open/use/close/pocket my knife as efficiently as possible and with as little focus as possible, and of all the Spyderco knives I've owned over the years this is by far the best for my work. The blade shape I proposed would just allow me to cut other things easier, I'm sure I don't need to explain how all that works to you lol.

Was just thinking, I'd also love to have a glass breaker at the end of this. I'm not sure how that could be accomplished since there isn't a back spacer but it would make an already awesome work knife even more perfect for my needs.

Looks great . I’ve been looking for a SE since I don’t have an Auto made by Spyderco. My timing is incredibly bad . MG2

I'm with you on the glass breaker David. While I understand that it was designed with rescue swimmers in mind, this variant would sure be a cool LE knife with a glass breaker.

I would think that rescue divers could get use from it too maybe? I have no idea what tools they use for breaking car windows and such if someone is trapped in a sinking vehicle. Maybe I'm having a case of "Hollywood thinking" and the reality is much more grim and more of a recovery than a rescue when dealing with breaking car windows underwater. It's something I may never need to use but in the work I do it could come in handy one day.

I agree David. One time is all it takes to pay for itself. Besides, I think it would look really cool!

I'd like one with exactly your sheepscliffe Carribean mod, proportioned for the Autonomy handle. I guess that's what you're simulating with the second drawing.

At this point, I'd take any orange Autonomy 1 I could find, and I can almost guarantee that as soon as I purchase one, Spyderco will release a version I like even better, maybe yours!

That was basically what I was going for (more Caribbean in belly) but I could get by with a more straight edge as long as it has a wee bit of belly at the tip, something along the lines of the classic Police would be plenty for me.

Still 100% onboard for this. This is one of those situations that I really wish I could just order a different blade for a knife, custom shop or whatever you want to call it.
