I went on a nice hike in the rain today...enjoy the pics. :D

First a couple of shots from the lower trail.

Covel Creek

Quite a few limbs and trees down on the trail.
Image

A few small falls.
Image
Image

Today I brought my project knives...those that I've modified.

More knife pics further down. Here's some more scenery.

This is a cool waterfall.
Image

The trail takes you behind the falls.
Image

Image

From that waterfall we move up and around the cliff face to the next waterfall. The cliff has several shallow caves.

A few more knife pics.

All of that rain that keeps everything so green around here can sometimes cause problems. I guess it's kind of a trade off. :)

Here's a shot of the state highway that runs through the valley where I live along with a Superleaf.
Image

Please remember to slow down while passing through town.
Image

And what about that town?

We now have a boat-thru espresso stand.
Image

Another shot of the highway.
Image

Most of my hikes take place on the other side of the valley, so I must cross the Cowlitz River which is the source of all this water. I don't think that I'll be hiking for a few days.
Image

This creek is about 200 yards from our house but it isn't close to flooding so we're in no danger of flooding at our house.
Image

Some shots of the valley.
Image

Image

These poor cows were on the last little bit of high ground left in their pasture.

Another Superleaf pic.

One more shot for you waterfall enthusiasts. This is "Temporary" falls. ;)

Thanks, I've been very happy with all three Spydercos that I've modified and so far I've been lucky enough to ruin only one knife with my attempts. That knife was a cheap Chinese made Boker that must have had some kind of substandard titanium alloy scales.

Do you usually have snow this time of year where you live?

Not usually. Today I could see snow on all the hilltops around me, but it could get warmer and all melt tomorrow. We usually don't get a lot of snow in the valley and it tends to show up later in December or January. Last year we never had more than 6 inches at any one time and it never lasted very long. It gets cold when the sky is clear, but when the clouds blow in off the Pacific they bring warmer air with them.

I went for a drive today to assess any flood damage on the roads around me and to take some pictures of my recently anodized Delica in natural light. One of the main Forest Service roads was washed out (gone) about 15 miles up and I unexpectedly ran into snow.

Here's some shots of the double rainbow Delica out in the wild.

And now for a few scenic pics.

This is supposed to be a hiking trail but it has turned into a creek.
Image

I saw one eagle having lunch today. I couldn't tell what it was eating but it didn't look like a fish. I just read a story in the paper last week that there were some fishers released in this exact area so maybe this eagle had its meal delivered. :D
Image

It kinda looks like the meal could be a small beaver.

Wow, that Delica looks like some sort of psychedelic animal fell into an oil slick!

Seems to make that Damascus look cooler than I previously thought. I'm not usually into flashy knives, but the lines and shapes there all flow well together!
Super Neat. :)

Did you do that anodized job as well? Very nice work on the pattern!

Yes, I did the work. Thanks for the compliment. There's a little more info about it in my Double Rainbow Delica thread that I just posted.

Here's a collection of shots taken over the last few days.

I'll start with my Delicas.

Lousy shot of the Kahr Delica.

Basic Back.
Image

ZDP-189.
Image

Super Blue.
Image

Double Rainbow.
Image

Patriotic.
Image

Now for some scenery...creeks, rivers, waterfalls...

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

End of the road!

Image

This is one of the main forest service roads in this area. The river changed course when we had the flooding a few weeks ago.

Image

Image

More eagles. The eagles are surprisingly skittish and never let me get very close, even though they are usually perched high in the trees.

There are at least three young eagles in this picture. I didn't even know they were there when I took the picture.

Great waterfall pictures. Were you using a tripod? If not, great job keeping the camera steady for the long exposure to show the flow of the water but keep the rocks sharp. Even if you did have a tripod, nice work.

Thanks GS, I usually don't take a tripod along but this time I did. I got tired of taking 20 blurry shots only to get one that's barely mediocre. :D

Most of the time they stay dry but not always. On the outing with my Sage 2 and two Technos, I had all three knives sitting in the defogger vent on my dash with the fan turned up as I drove home in my truck. Those three have been modified and get carried so it's no biggie. The Chap 2 that was in the creek with the fish is another story, but I do plan to modify that one at some point. I just haven't come up with a plan for it yet.

I don't know if I posted this one here.
