I went on my first serious hike yesterday and it may have been a little premature. It kinda kicked my butt...wait, my butt was fine but my knees felt like I just had a run in with Jeff Gillooly. :D

Anyway...I decided to hike to the Tatoosh Wilderness, a place that I had not been before. The trail starts in dense forest at an elevation of about 2300 ft. and rises steeply for about 3 miles. At this point you transition to subalpine terrain and then along Tatoosh Ridge.

My first pic features the Sage 4.
Image

There was still quite a bit of snow on some portions of the trail. You can see some of it here looking back at the trail with Goat Rocks, Packwood Lake and Mt. Adams in the background. At this point I was at an elevation of about 5000 ft.
Image

Here's a shot from the same location looking the opposite direction.
Image

The trail goes through a small gap and then heads up the other side of the ridge. Here I got a glimpse of Mt. Rainier.
Image

And then Mt. St. Helens.
Image

The last part of this trail follows the ridge line to Tatoosh Peak.
Image

Here's a shot further up the ridge looking toward the top. I decided to stop here (at about 6100 ft. elevation and 6.8 miles in) because I had already taken much longer than I expected and the snow covered trail did not look inviting.

Image

Here's a couple of shots looking back down the ridge.
Image

Image

On my way down and back in the forest I stopped to cool off at Hinkle Tinkle Creek. The lighting wasn't good but I needed another knife pic.

Image

Overall I did 11.5 miles round trip with an elevation gain of about 3800 ft. I hope you enjoyed the pics! :) :spyder:

I got my son out again today for another short hike, just over 3 miles. Today I'm featuring an old UKPK.

A couple pictures from work.

I stopped in the middle of the road for this quick shot. I probably shouldn't, with all the traffic I could have caused an accident. ;)

Image

When I got to the end of the road this was parked at the trailhead. I guess they needed some PT with a view.

I finally had time for another hike. :)

Looking across the Green River valley at the Mt. Margaret Backcountry. Notice the new snow. We had temperatures in the 90s two weeks ago and now it's in the 50s in the valleys and snowing at the higher elevations.

Mt St. Helens with a fresh coat of snow.

Kiwi 4 came along for the hike.
Image

So did my most recent acquisition, the Battlestation.

Battlstation with Mt. Adams.
Image

This frog was hopping around in the huckleberries.
Image

A hike wouldn't be complete without also getting a shot of Mt. Rainier.
Image

A group shot.
Image

On my way home, I had to stop so that I didn't hit this confused little spike that was standing in the road. He better figure things out before hunting season next month.

It's been a while since I posted but the clouds parted today and we had whopping 50 degree temps so I got out to search for eagles. I saw a few but didn't get any good pictures. It was a good day anyway. Enjoy! :) :spyder:

It's been a while since I've gone on a proper hike. Today marks the day that I start getting my Pillsbury dough boy physique back into shape...I hope. Most of these pics were taken from a trail that I had not been on before but it is near other trails that I've travelled so the scenery will probably look familiar. It was a little hazey with high clouds but you could still see the mountains.

First a quick hike to Iron Creek Falls.

Image

Image

Now on to the main hike: About 100 yards up the trail Mt. St. Helens is in full view.

Image

The trail had several patches of snow still covering some sections.

Some of the wildflowers were blooming:
