Here's another mini build...

What is the material the bead is made of, and what tools are you for crafting?
Very cool.
Very cool.

Gus is made from Burmese Blackwood. It's a hardwood. I use a rotary tool with a million different sanding and cutting bits.

Nice Gus bead. I was inspired by your making of thread and ordered some supplies from Bear Tooth Woods. My box showed up today and I tried my hand at making my first bead. Nothing too complex, just a simple little Tiki inspired guy. I've got a bunch of other, more complicated designs on paper that I plan on making once I get a bit more practice under my belt. But here's my first one:

Acrylic. I'm using pen turning blanks as they are cheap, come in a huge assortment of colors, and are pretty easy to shape. Only downside is they smell pretty bad when working them. I don't know what color this bead was, as I picked up a grab bag of random cut-offs with my order to practice on and this piece came out of that bag.Jazz wrote:What material is that, jabba? I have a ton, but I don't want to take over the thread.
I won't post a link, but if you want you can check out EDCSociety.NET for my carving thread. Here are a couple teasers. :D

Willy, that carving reminds me of the Ents on LOTR.willydigger wrote:I have a ton, but I don't want to take over the thread.

The Smurf is curly Maple dyed blue. The green ones are also curly Maple only dyed green. I have purple, natural, teal, and bronze (though it looks dark brown to me). You get the natural wood feel and depth with a splash of color. It's pretty cool. :D
