gbelleh, I echo Holland's comments. The blue is my favorite. I love how fruits & veggies as well as red meat makes the colors come alive. Thanks for sharing.

I included this in the Calendar Contest, but thought I'd post it here as well.

I love SB patina.

ZDP-189 patina. Very hard to capture with my crappy cell phone camera.
Edit: Sorry for the huge pics, forgot to downsize.

My Caly is starting to get thick layer of oxidation on the "patina line", almost completely covering the spyder logo and a little surface rust in and above the spyderhole. I currently have no plans to mitigate the oxidation, I think it looks cool. :D

Decided to give my K390 mule a light workout in the kitchen last night and this morning. First up last night was dicing half an onion followed by cubing some steak in preparation for curry. Then this morning a banana was cut up for my grandmothers breakfast and lunch.

The results of all of it is this..

I like how it's turned out, I love how the onions and meat bring out the colors of a patina.

Mmm, mustard patina. :)

Image

I stuck my Super Blue Caly 3 in an Apple for about a half hour about a month ago. I noticed this while eating the apple:

Image

About a week after I did the Apple Patina, I used Mustard about 3/4 of the apple patina lightened, and a little bit of it REALLY darkened, and it has some shades of blue in the middle.

Brian, that does look as awesome as I expected. Apparently the Superblue is a true sandwich and not just near the cutting edge. I like seeing the patina on the spine as well.

Thanks everyone. :) I agree about the spine patina.

Something I was thinking about. It looked like my 420J1 is staining, and I wiped it down a few times since setting the patina. Is the super blue being ground on the same equipment, contaminating the stainless 420J1?

The spine of mine is showing patina on the super blue layer just like yours. I'll bet it's only a matter of time until somebody starts grinding, just to see how far up the blade they can reasonably (we hope) go to reveal more super blue.
K-390 on hand: Mule Team 17, Police 4 G-10, Endela (burlap micarta), Endela backup, Endura (canvas micarta), Straight Stretch (now blade-swapped with G-10 Stretch), Delica Wharncliffe, Dragonfly Wharncliffe, & Dragonfly Wharncliffe shorty mod

That doesn't look at all like a diamond cross section of super blue. Hhhhmmm I should stop looking at knife pics since I should stop buying knives. :)

Sounds like a great idea. If you have success, I'm sure everybody else will want to try it too! Hurry so we can get our name back in the pot before they're all gone :p
